2016 340i Squeaks, Creaks and Rattles :-(
I've been toying with the idea of purchasing a BMW for what seems like forever. Most recent vehicles - G37, S4, IS350 and SQ5. I finally pulled the trigger on a 340i a few weeks ago.
My 340i has just under 500 miles and I'm really disappointed in the number of squeaks and creaks the vehicle is already developing (what seems like a new one daily). In order of development:
I'm going to take my vehicle into the dealer to have them looked at. I love how the vehicle looks, drives, etc - but these are driving me nuts. Before you say "turn up the volume", I have a 3 yo and a 4 yo, so most of the time is spent with the radio off. I've developed a rattle here and there with my previous vehicles, but this has to be a record. |

The door creaks are dirty door seals.
I also noticed the slight rattle in the silver accent under my wood trim. I went across shifting my thumb with firm pressure and the creaking went away. Other stuff I do not have. Hope that helped

Door creeks: Well-known issue, discussed in this thread, among others: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1210175
I've got ~7k miles on my 340, and otherwise am very happy with the quality. I do hear an occasional rattle from the glove compartment (slamming it shut quiets it temporarily), but it's very feint. Hopefully the dealer can help.

I hate to say this because i share your frustration in expection for perfection but...
You might start chasing Gremlins and find Monsters. I suggest not opening the "Chase squeaks can of worms" Not what you want to hear, I know. |

I'm only at 800 miles, but haven't seen any of these symptoms.
If it's the door seals, pick up some http://www.amazon.com/nextzett-91480.../dp/B004B8GTQG That stuff saved me from driving my E90 335 into the ocean. |

Where are your cars built everyone? Munich (Germany), Regensburg (Germany), Rosslyn (South Africa), somewhere else? Maybe it's one particular plant that is having the issues?
Use this thread as a guide: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=783416

Thank you guys for the responses. I will look into cleaning the sills. Plus, I will read through the thread provided.
It's a SA vehicle. Didn't even know that there was a quality difference??? I really wasn't expecting perfection, I've owned enough vehicles to know that isn't possible, but I did expect more for such an expensive vehicle with < 500 miles. Hopefully, I can get the more annoying ones taken care of and live with the others. On a side note. Discovered a new one today. Volume up about 40% (sounds great inside), but outside passenger door rattles really bad. Kind of embarrassing standing outside.

Wanted to provide an update. I read through the squeaky door seal thread and applied paint sealant to my shadowline trim. So far it seems to be working. Keeping my fingers crossed, but that knocks one of the big squeaks off the list.

Go ahead, take it to the dealer, I'm willing to bet it comes home with more rattles, worse yet ... a scratch. I think maybe you do expect perfection. |

I think it drives and looks great - just expected less squeaks, creaks, rattles, etc. I've owned a lot of new vehicles in my life. Last I tallied it was ~18 new cars (not bragging, just letting you know I'm a car guy and this isn't my first vehicle) and I've never had one that squeaked/creaked/rattled like this one with so few miles on it. I agree, taking it to the dealer is not optimal. I would prefer to fix them myself or at least make them more tolerable. I've found some helpful threads, like the door creak one, so hopefully I can find others that address the issues I'm having. Cheers.

A trait of X-drives perhaps? My AWD land cruiser will do that on occasion..

I need to add though - The clunk I hear is from the pedal itself. It's as if the spring back on the brake pedal is too strong/forceful. It's nothing mechanical and is not coming from the drivetrain or exterior. |

Yes mine too. I am going to ask the dealer to change the spring mechanism next time I take it for a service.

Have you tried just rolling from a stop and dragging the pedal a little slower to 'off' to see if it's the spring as surmised?
