Superchips remap for 335i

Does anybody know anything about the remap/chip that Superships are promoting?

I understand that they have a relationship with Eurobahn in the US (makers of the SSTT plug and play device), but their literature suggests that their product is an actual remap stored on the ECU.

Interesting.

We think it's a box... much like the SSTT...

Moderate increase in power with no fiddling.

Not sure on the cost though, it might be better to simply ship one in I would imagine there is a huge margin on it at SC.

With the pound to dollar conversion rate I'm shipping Loads of stuff around at the moment.

SJ - I think it is a rebranded SSTT. The gains are the same as SSTT (+40 bhp), but as you suggested, it is twice the price of a US supplied unit ($600 v £600).

Looking on the Eurobahn website (the US SSTT supplier), they retail the VAG SC remaps (probably their Bluefin device) and so I suspect they have a reciprical arrangement allowing SC to retail the SSTT in the UK.

One positive thing is that if SC are prepared to endorse the SSTT, it inspires some confidence in using in the unit.

I have been following the Helix and Procede V2 developments closely over recent months, but just can't bring myself to commit to one because of the intrusive nature of the install. The SSTT is one that I was initially interested in, but subsequently lost interest in.

However, I am now thinking that the SSTT with a K&N or BMC drop in filter might provide the kind of gains that I am looking for at a reasonable price (providing circa 360 bhp). At least until my warrenty runs out, at that point I will have nothing to protect and may go for something with larger gains.

understand your concerns re intrusions...

I'd think twice about the procede... now they are 100% limp free, easy to fit and importantly remove...

I'll even help you fit it

That 40 bhp you'll be missing will keep niggling at you !

depend how interested you are in other mods as well, procede is MUCH more flexible, it's a tuning toy, i.e. I hook up my laptop and can fiddle with it.

That's a massive turnoff for some people though, they want something out of the box and plug in, horses for courses

Guys, anyone with any more info on the SC box?

SJ - have you had any issues with the procede?

Yes - I asked the question of SC themselves. Basically the SC box is a rebranded SSTT. They sent me a copy of their installation instructions and the unit and instructions are identical to the SSTT.

They said that they are working on a remap, as this is their preferred method, so I guess this box is a stop gap solution for them (I wouldn't hold my breath on a remap becoming available in the foreseeable though).

I have ordered an SSTT box directly from Eurobahn Performance at half the price that SC are asking for. I should be taking delivery of this and a BMC drop in filter later this week.

I'm really looking forward to see how the car performs with these mild mods.

I have heard such reports for the K&N - but the BMC is supposedly better.

I don't think that the filter is necessarily a bhp mod, but improves throttle response and turbo spool up slightly.

I will see - they definately sound nice.

Chaps, seriously considering the SSTT.

My only concern is losing the warranty on the car IF (unlikely i know) something bad happens.

I will of course tell my insurance company (BMW insurance! that I have a superchip thingy) my concern is that as BMW insure my car (well I believe its outsourced) they could grass me up?

Also do you reckon the MPG will drop using this bad boy?

MPG will only drop because you are likely to drive harder. Driving like for like there is very little in it.

I've noticed a 1-2 mpg difference typically. Where I used to get 31 mpg, I'm now seeing 29 mpg. The performance increase makes it worthwhile though as it is very noticeable. I reckon an LSD is probably needed to really put the power down now as the DTC light is permanently on every time I accelerate in first or second gear.

Thanks guys, still the insurance issue is putting off slightly, as i'm sure BMW insurance will keep a record and inform the dealer if anything goes wrong

Im sure those with the SSTT install will berate me for saying this - but ive driven a 335i m sport with an SSTT fitted and i can honestly say that i was simply NOT impressed with it. I could tell absolutely little or no power increase over my 335i - it was such a disappointment imho. I didnt expect it to be night and day as its only 40bhp or so but that said i couldnt tell any difference. I have a stock 335i but i do have a full Miltek system - which at best probably gives me 15bhp - and it felt no quicker at all than my car.
At the weekend i met up with some of the guys from this forum and James (serjames) took me for a quick spin in his car and it was truly impressive. I appreciate that he has done quite a lot of work to his car (engine mods) and spent a fair amount of money - but the results really are night and day. I havent driven in Kins (G33) car yet but his mods are also super impressive (circa 420bhp!!!) and i am very tempted to follow his mod route. Just my two-penny worth!!!
