Engine Oil Extract from the Top

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum. Last year I got my 2015 BMW 320i manual drive. While the car is still under warranty, I want to add a quart of oil additive recommended by my mechanic. I do have a Mityvac oil evacuator that I want to use to suck a quart of engine oil from the top.

However, as you know, the newer BMW has done away with dip stick so I am not sure where else I can insert my sucking tube. I tried thru the engine oil cap opening but that didn't work. My next spot to try is maybe thru the oil filter? Does anyone know if that will work? I do need to buy a oil filter wrench first. Thank you!!!

What kine oil additive?

BMW doesnt recommend any oil additives.
I wouldnt add anything to a full synthetic even if you disregard BMW recomendations, could undermine the chemistry...

^^^ Agree. Why on earth would you want to add an additive to your oil? Did your mechanic also sell you nitrogen for your tires?

Agree with the others. Don't add anything to your oil, just do the scheduled oil changes.

BTW...why are you taking the car to a non BMW mechanic at this time? A 2015 would still be under the manufacturers plan. BMW right now is free for you; anybody else is going to charge.

There is no path into the oil pan. Your fluid extractor won't work.

Mid Oil Change

I was also considering maybe a mid oil change (5000 miles). I guess I have to do it under the car then. Thanks everyone!

I do the mid-cycle oil and filter change especially when BMW had their cycle set for approximately 15k depending on driving style to some degree. The "need" for the mid-cycle change has been debated here and on E90 forum for years and its really just your preference. With modern high quality synthetic oils, 10 k miles is reasonable for most driving.

At least thats my thougths-FWIW

If you decide to do these, it will be from underneath. Easy and only takes about 30 min.

My 340 has just over 1,000 miles, break in is 1,200.

At 1,500 miles I will have an oil change done - at my expense - in order to get that break in oil out. Disagree if you will, but an engine is only new and only broken in once. The price of an initial oil change is cheap.

Won't be adding any additives though.

Got Nitrogen for Something Else

I did opt for the nitrogen (they called it nitrofill). I personally don't care about it but like the tire warranty that comes with it. For an additional $3 per month, I don't have to worry about getting a flat tire.

For 3 years, the cost comes to roughly $108. A new tire for my car can easily cost over $250. Just my reason to get it.
