I think my 340i sounds much better with the windows down - definitely too quiet with the windows up. The 335d I had on test had very noticeable fake sound and sounded very different with the windows down.
Controversially I don't think the 340i sounds as good as the old E46 2.2 6 Cylinder! |

Agreed, your comments echo mine. I cannot be bothered to disconnect the ASD as it's simply too quiet I probably wouldn't notice

I watched I vid on this and it looked a load of hassle. Do you really have to strip out most of the boot interior to access this?

I don't know if it does/does not have ASD - I just posted the video out of interest.
However one thing I am sure about from that video...the standard 340i engine sounds much better than that M3/M4 ASD crap! |

Yeh, I'm not going to bother doing that. Sounds good to me. I just wondered if there was a way to tell when coding etc?
I drove 335d last year and the first thing I noticed was the sound in the cabin...which is how I found out about the ASD. The 335d was deffo louder than my 440i in the cabin. |

IMO, this piped in noise is only noticeable in Sport/Sport+, Comfort is very quiet.

It was a pain but at the time we had no concrete confirmation that the 335d had ASD or not. I had been quite vocal that it didn't and took my boot apart to prove I was right - and proved myself wrong! The ASD part no in my 335d was listed in RealOEM but not for a 3 series?!? One of the 340i owners needs to do the same so this topic can be put to bed asap!

This is a video I made back in 2014. The difference is not hugely noticeable as you will hear...

I don't get why there isn't a mode or enable for it in the vehicle settings. Seems like it would be easy enough to do if it's all electronic. For those who want the sound, let them turn on the ASD. And for those who want the real thing (even if that's nothing), let them turn off the ASD.
