Fan kicks on when car gets hot?
I've noticed when its hot outside, or when im pushing my car hard, sometimes a little whirring noise will kick in which is quite noticable from the interior of the car, im assuming a fan of some sort.
I realize this post lacks a lot of details but can anyone tell me what this might be? 2010 335xi. |

I would check a few things: Make sure the radiator fan shroud doesn't have any debris on/in it that is making contact with the fan. When the car is OFF, play with the fan blades to see if there is any play in the bearing for the fan. |

I hear the same on mine too on hot days or if I have been driving on a long road trip. I am assuming you have the Logic 7 sound system. If so, I'm pretty sure it's the cooling fan on the amp that's kicking on.

If OP can record a video or audio of the fan sound when it happens, then we will see if my hunch is right.

I dont think the fan has speeds per say it works off pwm to vary the speed to meet the conditions mine is really loud in the summer when its really hot outside and it is kind of unpleasant when its running full speed but as long as the car has cold a/c and doesnt overheat im fine with it

On my 06 330xi you can hear the fan for the sound system in the trunk when you shut off the motor on a hot day. Next time you hear it, open the trunk and listen. if the sound is coming form there you will be able to tell.
