Brakes squealing during cold temperature

I live where winter temperature can reach below -30 celsius and my car is parked outside when I am at work.

When it is extremely cold, I can hear really loud squealing noise when braking and it only goes away after driving the car for 5-10mins. Is this normal? Does anyone have the same experience?

I'd say it's normal under those Winter conditions. The squeaking noise will go away after driving some time as you mentioned.

I'm in East Coast USA, this always happens to me every Winter when Temperature drops. Nothing to worry about.

Normal.

It's the brake pads scraping off the rust on the rotors (if there was any) and cold rotors.

I just wasn't sure if there's anything I can do to prevent this from happening. It really sounds terrible at times.

Unfortunately not, easiest way to stop it from squealing that much is to brake as much as possible, or just go 50kph and aggressively brake to heat up the rotors and pads a bit.

My brakes have been squealing much more this winter than previous winters. I complained to the dealer a few months ago and they said it is normal.

That's crazy cold. The coldest it's ever been where I live was -7°C.

That's Canadian winter for you. It sometimes can get up to -40 to -50 from where I live that's why my breaks squeal so much (protesting the cold perhaps).

I am not in a cold weather (California) , but the rear brakes were squealing terribly every morning like you described and it would stop only after braking at least 5-6 times.
I changed the brake pads to centric stoptech ($35 on rockauto.com) and the squeal is gone.
Too bad there are no centric stoptech for the fronts, only for the rears on 328i. These are the closest to the oem stopping power unless you'd spend hundreds.

Even on the coldest days i.e below 0C I get zero squeal. The secret? Akebono pads. BMW pads squeal way too much when cold.

I am mostly fine with the squealing but mostly I'm concerned if that if that is doing any damage, if it isn't then I'm fine with it. Sometimes it just sounds bad so I am not sure if that is doing any damage to it.

my brakes started squealing a little bit here in the arctic conditions of Los Angeles winter. One night it even hit +7°C over night. I had to look for a light sweater. terrible.

Depends how loud it is. I think a bit of "grinding like noise" is normal initially, I don't know about "squealing". To be honest, I don't hear that on mine when it's that cold. I think 5 series cabin is a bit better insulated, and maybe brakes are different, not sure, but no squealing in my case, especially not loud enough to be worried about damaging something. I also had two loaners during super cold weather days, and I wouldn't bet on it, but don't recall hearing anything either, they were fairly new though.

This is my second car (bought both brand new and both were F30's). I bought the second one around the end of winter and it only had 5km on it when I drove it off the lot. The brakes always sounded like that from when I bought it (both cars actually).

Then it's likely others are giving you correct info, maybe it is normal, don't want to freak you out. Especially since I'm not 100% sure about loaners I had (X1/320/228). For sure, my own brakes do not make excessive squealing noise initially at -20 or below, not on my F10 or our other car (not BMW).
