Exclamation slow acceleration then sudden jump?

Hey guys,

Recently, I have this problem where I'll be stepping on the gas (about 1/4 in) and the RPMs will be stuck at 2000 rpm then suddenly after giving it a bit more gas, It'll spike to ~4000 in a jerking motion.

It's weird because the car will be hesitating up until a point where I give it enough gas. I also have rough idling in Drive (the car trembles a bit, RPMS stay around ~600 RPM).

Any ideas what could be causing this? could it be the TPS? vanos?

no MIL light. 128k miles. 325i 2006

Yes, that is how you do it (you can release the pedal after 30 seconds though) then turn off for at least 2 min

Since I bought my car ive thought it was weird how if you floor it from a stop the rpms are low and geadually rise for a second then they shoot up really fast and trigget traction control lol.

Those symptoms sound like a failed ignition coil.

Well since you mention coils....

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=19660983

I replaced the "faulty coil" just to be safe with a bosch coil after I saw the hole. Also replaced all the spark plugs. no misfires either.

btw, I am not the original owner of this car, I know this cars been put through a lot of shit , but I'm the owner now so I want to take care of it.

If you have auto transmission they start at 2nd gear unless in sport or manual mode. You may be experiencing transmission dropping to 1st from 2nd due to demand from gas pedal. Just a guess I don't own auto but had driven a few times as loaner during warranty period years back.

Yeah, this only happens when its not in sport mode. I did the throttle reset and its more responsive now.

I've read that it eventually goes back to normal. How often do you guys do this? Every gas refill?

My 325i always starts in 1st gear unless I don't come to a nearly complete stop and a few other scenarios. But most of the time 1st, again, unless a rolling stop.
