Thoughts on this 335i?

It's had the HPFP recall done, but that's pretty much it. I've done oil changes, alignment, other maintenance. Nothing major has come up in the 1.5 years I've owned it.

There's a very small coolant leak starting to develop.
I say very small because the shop left it on the pressure tester all day, and they finally found it. They did that because I was suspiciously low on coolant after who knows how many years.

The valve cover was replaced at some point when the car was under warranty (before I owned it). Other than that, that's it.

I haven't had any typical N54 problems yet, even with my mods. Exhaust + xDrive = hitting the bottom of the car though. That front diff is kinda in the way, so there's not as much room.
How much of a bad time am I going to have owning this out of warranty? Daily driver also.

It's actually 80 000 KM. Also, he lives in Calgary, Alberta. In Canada, Prices for cars are way higher than the U.S. That car is actually priced at a very reasonably rate, which would explain the over 1000's views it has. OP, my biggest concern with this ad would actually be all those views. Anytime a car thats listed at a price this good and has over a 1000 views and no body still bought it usually means that something might be wrong with it. I would pay the $150 to an indi shop (preferably Motorwerkes, Sheni's or even BMW Calgary) and get an inspection done. Then you can go from there.

You definitely need to have a thorough inspection by someone reputable. And if you can't afford a lot of maintenance or you're not a DIYer, it's not the car for you. Having said that, I still love my n54 even though it's been very costly.

Actually, on the contrary young lad.......!

The document specifically states...

"Specs:
- 80,000 km
- Production date 2009-09-09
- N54 3.0L twin turbo
- Alpine White exterior
- Coral Red dakota leather interior
- Style 193 factory wheels
- Glass sunroof
- Sport seats
- Premium package
- Comfort Access package
- M Sport package
- Individual package

Full VIN decode included in pics.

Wheels are available for purchase, but not included in the price."

But doesn't specify "which" wheels are available for purchase, nor does it depict an image of said "wheels" and at what cost one would be liable to pay..!! Is it those pictured on the vehicle...?!? Is it the ever sought after, yet mysteriously unseen 193M's as mentioned in the listing but unseen to the human eye..?!? Or is it even a spare set he has in his unspoken of storage facility in areas unknown, that aren't even pictured due to fear of embezzlement..?!? Who really knows Watson, does anybody know, when will we know the truth..!?!

I suppose if I truly was "Sherlock", as you claim I am, I would have taken the time to interpret every minuscule little clue and detail, and performed an in depth investigation into the said "wheels" for sale at an "extra cost", but unfortunately I did not perform such a daunting task for fear of retaliation and my reluctance to visually identify said "wheels" anywhere in the proposed document!! Which actually would disallow me any entitlement to the term "Sherlock", because the true "Sherlock" would have done so in a sly and stealth fashion to solidify any and all true/false statements in such a listing to erase any benefit of the doubt..!! So I refute your statement sir..!! And I now propose to you a chance of offering me an apology for accusations of mistaken identity..!!

I guess it's because mine is newer and maybe fewer miles? What have you really had problems with that you had to pay out of pocket? I've had:
  • All injectors (Warranty)
  • 3-4 HPFPs (All Warranty, no problems in years)
  • 2 heater cores (All warranty, no idea why 2 went bad)
  • Windshield Washer Pump (Out of Pocket) <$200
  • Spark Plugs (Out of Pocket, did myself) <$200 for tools, parts, torque wrench.
  • Foglight Housing (Out of Pocket, did myself) $100

I've spent like <$500 out of pocket in 6+ years of ownership.

The major stuff (HPFP, injector, turbos, etc are all extended warranty items and should be covered.

How many miles do you have? I have 37,000.

Water pump, thermostat, alternator, battery, spark plugs, oil gasket pan leak, brake fluid flush, front and rear brake pads and rotors plus new tires more frequently than usual. Just to name a few. Can't remember the rest right now.
About 75000 miles. All out of my own pocket. No warranty.

They look clean, I was partially being sarcastic in my initial post, and 100% sarcastic in my 2nd post, to Mr. name caller..

Just get a PPI done, and with the extended warranty you should be golden if everything in the inspection passes.. Very clean car but it wouldn't hurt to talk'm down a few bucks if you can..

Wtf, 3-4 HPFP's at 37,000 miles? Is that normal or just bad luck? When was the last one done?

Also, does anyone know what the warranty is in Canada? I can't find any info on it. I heard someone mention it was just 120k kms instead of miles, which would really suck if true.

Its pretty straight forward. The ad states what comes with the car. Style 193. You put it down to a lie. Its not a miniscule detail its pretty plain and simple if you just read the full ad properly.

BMWs in the 50K - 90K (miles) interval are pretty trouble free. Only about 30% of vehicles even experience the need for new water pump and thermostat, according to poll.

I would not expect much to be needed, apart from a new battery if that has not been replaced since factory delivery. I think you have 4 years of pretty trouble free driving ahead of you (assuming you drive 12k miles per year).

Maintenance needed you probably should plan on
  • set of spark plugs (if not done at 45k miles)
  • walnut blast (to improve engine operation)
  • manual tranny oil change (for preventative measure)

Ok sherlock you think its funny. Thats all that matters. You still misread the ad and accused someone of lying when they werent. It wasnt a big deal i just pointed out that more attention was required than what you gave it. But no seriously your a comedian who draws like picasso. So well done.

Price is too high I think and it's not a rare combo... Lots of white msports out there with red interior. I think it's priced because the mods are viewed as a bonus, when cars are technically worth less when they're modded unless it's done by dinan or a reputable mod company
