Low Coolant Light
Hi everyone,
This morning starting the car for work, a low coolant light popped up instantly. I didn't find any water pooling underneath the car. I was in a hurry so I drove another car and didn't have time to inspect. I'm currently out of warranty and I don't have a code reader either. Its a n55 with about 40k miles. Is it the dreaded water pump issue I thought I would be able to last longer. But if so, I guess time to get to some ole wrenching this weekend. Any advice or tips on where to purchase the cheapest water pump kit aside from fcpeuro Thanks! !! |

If its just a little low, just top it off. The n54 seems to use a little bit of coolant of the course of a year so probably the same thing on the n55. I wouldn't go replacing the water pump at this point unless you want peace of mind.

Top it off, and if it happens again, check your reservoir. Mine cracked a little on the underside and you could see a tiny little dribble when it got hot. Never left a puddle, though.
They aren't expensive either, like $60 or something. |

I would also check the coolant pipe that sits right above the radiator, you'll have to remove the snorkel to see it if I remember correctly. This winter I got stuck on a snow berm and lost all my coolant in my reserve, and had no idea what it could be. After checking the reserve tank for leaks then checking the intercooler and water pump. I was about to pop off the radiator I saw that piping exploded and I was so mad because it was such an easy fix that I over complicated.

Most likely place for coolant to leak is a bad expansion tank.
If it goes, the radiator is right behind.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! you guys been super helpful, i was able to take a peek under the hood after work tonight. It seems like the expansion tank exploded lol, there is coolant spilled everywhere
The hose that runs above the radiator seems to be fine, but i figure since I am at it , might as well change it since it does look brittle. Do you guys have any recommendation on where to purchase the expansion tank aside from fcpeuro? Once again, thank u all |
