engine oil temperature on F32/36 435i

I have F36 435i, and most of the times im in either sport or sport+ mode. and recently i have noticed that my engine oil temperature warning popping up while i was driving. (one time the warning came up in comfort mode stuck in the traffic). So i was wondering how are yours engine oil temperatures while you guys drive?

mine almost hits 120 degrees celsius after about driving 10km.

should i be concerned and take it to the service or is it normal?

Definitely doesn't sound like it should be normal.

Mine is stuck at 100. I saw it go to 95 in spirited driving and got up to 105-110 in ecopro on a long hwy drive.

I know it may sound stupid, but did you check the oil level/coolant level?

Do you get any other errors besides this?

Definitely check the coolant level. There could be a small leak that went unnoticed.

to be honest, it is my first time looking at the coolant tank. if i got it right, it looks like it is way below the half line. so if i just go service and get a coolant and fill it up then shouldnt have problems?

Could you confirm that is the right tank for coolant?

ps. there was no stick or anything, but i can clearly see the actual liquid even from outside of the tank.

Doesn't seem too bad...

Was it taken when the engine was cold?

From the photos, it seems to hover just at the minimum, but I don't think this should cause issues though.

I'm thinking maybe there's an issue with the water pump / thermostat or something.

I think this should probably warrant a trip to the dealer

Take your car to the dealership - nobody here is going to be able to tell you what is wrong or how to fix it without a detailed diagnosis, including reading fault codes stored in the ECU.

The warning isn't normal at all... But 120° after 10km is what I get normally, 120° is the operating temp of the N55 and B58, diesel engine works à 100°, this explain the difference that stormlv underlined

like most of you suggest, i added a more of a coolant and will take it to the dealer if this happens again.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.
