E90 Resale Value Sucks
I was just browsing Craigslist and found same year Honda's selling much more than our E90's, let alone the IS300. So demoralizing
Just wanted to share my opinion |

It's not a cheap car to maintain.
If you think the resale on one of these is bad; look into a Mercedes S63 AMG 2009. They can be had in the low/mid $30K+ That car cost $100K+. I have a buddy that picked on up for about $34K. Beautiful car with low miles.

I paid $20,000.00 for 2011 335i with 55k, NAV, premium package , etc. back in December. One owner, mint condition, dealer serviced since day one, even tires. Sticker on it was over $54,000.00.
But I am used to shitty resale on my toys I have had my 2004 RX-8 since new and paid over 30k for it and have put about $25,000.00 into it and it is mint and I probably couldn't get $10,000.00 for it.

Yeah my boss is a Merc fan with an SLS, CL65 AMG, and he has owned a few in the past (S55, C63, S500, S600, etc). He had a 2005 S55 AMg that he paid 100k for and when he went to get rid of it, it had 50,000 miles on it and never had a problem and the most they would give him anywhere was $22,000.00. His CL65 was even worse so he just kept it and bought the SLS anyway. He just traded in his wife's 2014 S500 for a brand new one and took a big hit as well. They really do rape you. Personally, I will never buy a new car ever again. This 335i for 20k still blows me away everytime I drive it.

If you treat your BMW like a Honda, the resale value will suck on it. If you treat your BMW like a BMW, the resale value will be pretty good. My 2004 E46 with 120k miles sold for $12k in 2014.

Sorry but I would have to disagree. No matter how a BMW is treated, resale value will always be poor compared to reliable Japanese cars. If it was not treated well, of course the value would really suck. |

At the end of the day, worth is subjective. If you can find that one buyer you may do well if they want what you have. But in general that is not the case.
I wanted M sport and 6 speed manual and I looked forever and could not find one with everything I wanted that wasn't beat to shit or high mileage so I settled for an auto without the Msport but everything else and I am happy since I know it's history and it literally doesn't have a scratch on it.

Damn straight my friend. The fact that I have access to a shop with a hoist means I'll be able to own a used 335i for a fraction of what it would normally cost. No problems here

Considering what an E90 with more miles than mine can go for in SD with questionable service history, I'm actually quite happy. An idiot at work bought a totally fucked E90 pre-LCI with 76k on the clock for what mine is worth with a 14% interest rate!

I bought mine 2.5 years ago with a 5 year/80k mile warranty, one owner and 23k miles for $25k (I paid too much) but it's exactly what I was lookin for and the car is pretty much mint. One more payment to make and I own the title. The car has another 10 years/100k miles left in it with proper maintenance and repairs. It's funny how different the situations can be even though we all own the same car.

I agree never thought my nissan 350z would be worth more than my 335. I will never again buy a car that hasn't hit its floor depreciation wise. Well at least I can still get my most of my money back for one car.

Every premium car takes a dump In residual.
My coworker drives a wrangler - cool car, not for me though. It seems that her three year old wrangler hardly lost any value. I noticed same goes for any wrx/STi - do not love those either..

It's not demoralizing.
My way to fight it, is, I have no intention of ever reselling my '07 E92 335i. And, I have never paid more than $140 for any service to it, until now. I got the trifecta, and am fixing it myself. Will cost $250. Whatever my wholesale value is, let's say $10,000. a) you'd have to shoot me in order to take it from me for that figure b) it's in way better shape than a typical '07 E92 335i So rather than say, woe is me I paid 44k for this new, and now it's only worth 10k, I keep it. If I want another BMW, which I do not based on what they build today (except a M2, or a M3 although the M3 is now priced out of my range), I just buy it with cash/loan (50% down, finance 36 mos @ 1.99). What my 335i is worth has nothing to do with anything. p.s. do you worry about your home value going up and down? Ours was down like 200k a few years ago, I didn't worry about it, it's on paper |
