NJMP Lightning - HPDE

Passing 8 or so cars after being the last to leave the staging area (late instructor) was first day at track.

Including:
m5
m3
factory five supercar
mini
and many other slow cars

Hit speed limiter on every straight. Need to find a place that will flash ECU and work with Dinan.

Was a great day and the Lightning track is pretty awesome.
I was on the same OEM brakes i been using for 11,300 miles and had a HPDE at Limerock on them. Would have probably been a little faster, but changing out to yellowstuffs and SS brake hoses this week.

Next stop on the NASANE HPDE tour is The Glen!

Enjoy!

Great video, brings back some "recent"memories of Lightning. Did you get signed off to run in HPDE 2? That group was super duper novice.

You should definitely swap out pads. The car is fast and with a faster group you'll brake later, harder and from higher speeds.

Good stuff bro!

not sure they were all slower cars...they were sure slower drivers

Were you running in D/S mode ? Seems like at times the car didn't know what you were trying to do like downshifting when you were tracking out... You can probably get smoother turns if you hold the gear during the turn in M mode

It's hard the first times though.... so many things to worry about that if the car can do the shifting is one thing less you need to worry about but as you get comfortable M mode will feel much better unless you forget to shift

Good stuff. I haven't run with NASA in a while. What's the membership pricing like for NJMP events? I assume you still have to join NASA to run? And you get a subscription to GRM?

Have you considered the Pagids, Porterfields or Endless pads? Did you do the brake bleed and pad change yourself? Curious what size punch you used for he retaining pins and if you needed a caliper tool to push the Pistons back for he new pads.

How has the lateral support been inside the car? A lot of bracing the door with your left knee or are the stock bolsters pretty good?

I'd say a mix of slower drivers and cars... That factory five should be fast as is the M5. Overall kinda timid run group. A couple traffic trains.

Yeah, guys, I was wondering about that. I ran a couple BMWs with autos/SMG at the track, and it was kind of 2nd nature to be in the right gears. With the M235i 8AT, I'm a bit confused...plus I find that the shifts are quicker in auto mode.

What do you guys think?

I ran mostly in sport mode. I wanted to run in s+ but instructors didn't agree.

It handles turns pretty well, not a huge amount of bracing, but i do use my knees and bolster in pretty tight.

Tire pressures i keep square at 38lbs cold. Seems to work well on my 18x235...

As far as brakes, i had a local shop do it because i don't have the line wrenches.

The m3's were trying their hardest to not let me pass all day, but i was just in a faster car. Right now im Dinan st 3 (going ecu tune shortly) Dinan intercooler, wagner catted dp, fabspeed muffler delete.

As far as brakes, im not trying to change pads in the paddock, so the yellows will due just fine for DD and monthly track duty.

Cost for nasa is like $80 for the year i think, bmwcca is similar. Than each event runs around $350 - 400, $550 for a weekend.

What is M mode on our cars?

I have eco/comfort/sport/sport +, DSC OFF, Traction Off

Unless you mean Manual mode...
I find myself using manual too often, so I wanted to let the car do most of the work for once.

I did drift out on one of the corners and brought it back ( can hear instructor laughing "You got it")

The group was extremely slow. There was a white 944 doing 45 mph on the turns the first session.
Was most of the peoples first track experience.

Lime Rock is May 21st with BMWCCA...

Yeah on the display it'll read "M" for manual.

Yup, heard you guys and saw that 944 holding up traffic.

Why not Sport+? Traction still remains on, just a higher threshold, right? But in Sport+ harder to modulate throttle... Or were instructors just adamant about keeping traction fully ON?

How much did fluids and pads cost to replace?

I'm on the fence about pads. I actually drove around in my EVO with full race pads Hawk HT10 on the street and I was happy with it. In fact I switched back to stock for a week and it seemed the car didn't stop. LP seemed ok with the Yellowstuffs, but I'm weary because of a bad experience I had in the past running EBCs on the track. They don't fade?

My car is set up similarly. I have the JB4, Wagner EVO II intercooler, AFe intake, full exhaust, ER downpipe, ER chargepipes, and BMS meth injection. I wonder how it'll do against the same cars in the group you ran in. Which M3s? E90s or F80s?

Thanks.

i had red stuffs on my stage 4 335xi and it couldnt stop the car. Need alot of heat to get race pads to work.

Yellow stuffs with SS Hoses and real fluid make 100% improvement.
I would tell anyone to go with the yellow stuffs for daily driving and occasional track. No squeal, no noise, hardly any dust to notice and i drive aggressive.

Instructors said s+ takes traction off, and i didn't want to argue with him since hes in my car all day.

Im going s+ at LRP and ill grab some video.

Im going to try out Harry's laptimer.

Full pad swap/ hoses/ fluid cost $400 at a local bmw tuner also had them do the dp.

Me too...red stuffs and green stuffs. Horrible pads.

So they didn't fade on the track day? Really don't mind squeal, that's why leaning toward the Porterfield R4 or R4S. Any word on these?

Where did you buy your Yellowstuffs? The link I got from a different thread...not in stock forever.

Gotcha on the instructor.

So without DP, figure $250-$300 for pad swap, fluid and hoses.

Good feeling to be passing the E92s... Wonder how it does against the F80s...

I'm faster than my boys 2016 m3.

no comment on other pads, i read other threads about different pads and went for the yellows.

Couldn't be happier.

Pagids are probably better for dedicated track but loud as hell.

Nice. Faster in a straight line? On a roll?

Gotcha. And you've been happy with the Yellows...

Yes M is what the shifter will show... instead of D or D/S

Sport + doesn't turn traction control off, just relaxes it a bit.... DSC OFF is what turns it almost completly off but you still have E-diff

All the above. AWD grips while the M spins. I get a full car jump on him from the line.

Yellows are solid choice for DD.

Nice! Is your buddy bewildered? Hahahaha.

I ran my buddy's E63 biturbo with a Renntech tune. He's pushing about 700hp to the crank and AWD. He basically beat me 5-6 car lengths from a dig and slow roll (my car has no traction even on 265s, at low speeds). But on a 50mph roll I got the jump on him and it took up to 120 for him to catch up. He said his car had to downshift, which is I'm sure true but I was truly surprised how quick my little 2er was on a roll.

I've got RWD 8AT.

Hey, where did you buy the brake lines and pads?

Been looking all over for the EBC yellows and only found the tears available online....which I don't want to get anyway.
