I've purchased the mirrortap as in the DIY but not the mount. Did you also use a mirrortap? If so were the wires he tapped into the same on the M2.

Yep, I used the Mirrortap and it's wired just the same as in the DIY, no issues.

It seems like that sits very low in your field of vision No?
I just picked up my car today and noticed how little space b/w the bottom of the mirror and the top of the Nav screen.

I wanted to get the blend mount, but it seems like it would obstruct the field of vision.

I had it mounted the same way in my previous car (350Z) and it works for me. Never had an issue but then again that car was all about obstruction in view

Honestly though I don't find it much of an obstruction but I did have the same concern as you. I'll take another photo later from the drivers vantage point and post it.

Great information for us M2 owners ... thanks for posting.

Quick question, I just ordered the MTX-1015 mirror tap power cord, and it comes with 4 different sets of tap sizes (.040", .045", .060", or .075"). Do you know which size you used?

Glad it was useful. Mine was .080, same as used in the 2addicts DIY

I don't think it's any of those, i ordered the MT- 4015 for mine with the .080" tap.

Edit: just saw em-too posted the same.

Where did you get the blend mount and which one is the correct one for the M2?

I might not do the mirror tap but instead run the wire from the fuse box using a fuse jumper. Only issue is mirror tap seems so much easier

It depends on which radar you are mounting. I had an Escort 9500 so this is the correct one for that application.

The wiretap is so easy and clean. I'd recommend it vs any other option.

Thanks guys! I installed the MirrorTap and BlendMount today and am happy with the results.

I think the MTX-1015 superseded the MT-4015, and is now what MirrorTap is selling on their website for all BMWs. The 0.075" leads ended up being too short, so I used longer 0.060" leads and everything works great!

I think you have those measurements backwards but yea I ordered same PN MTX-1015. Its definitely the longest leads that you use on the black connector. Just did it today.

I'm glad it worked out for you!

No, those are the measurements. On my package of 4 sets of leads, each set was a different thickness. I started with the thickest leads (0.075" according to the package), but they weren't long enough to make a good connection. The next smaller thickness (0.060" thick) were longer than the 0.075" set, and that did the trick.

Oh I see. I didn't really check the diameter of the pins was just looking at the length.

After you installed the mirrortap, the radar detector turns off with the car right? Coming from a VW, if the mirrortap was tapped wrong, it will stay on and drain the battery.

Also, did it show any signs of dimming or faintness when you put the car in reverse?

Does the MirrorTap splice into the wire (i.e. cut through the insulation to make a connection)?

No, it just slides into the existing wire harness
