Clutch judder 320d
I put my car in today for a knocking noise front right hand side and to see about the clutch judder which is getting worse.
They just called to say knocking noise is a warranty issue ( the rack has already been done before, this is another issue), however with regards to the clutch they are saying " aye there is an issue but it needs a full strip down to inspect but if they find it to be operator error them I'm liable" Sticky situation that I was not expecting to here. I don't ride the clutch but I don't know whether the previous owner did during their 13000 miles..... Fingers crossed |

Operator error?! How hard can it be to use a clutch? Any clutch going after 13000 miles should be a warranty job without question.

I have clutch judder too. It's most noticeable from cold. I have covered 17k so far in my June 2013 320i. For me it seems very intermittent, and although annoying I don't feel it's worth taking in unless it gets worse. I'm getting the extended warranty anyway so if it gets worse ill take to the dealer.

My E90 320i has had a clutch judder for most of its 10 year life, I think a lot suffer from it, possibly due to the damper valve that is fitted in the hydraulic line. It is most noticeable if you slip the clutch, but if you come off the clutch with a smooth firm decisive movement it doesn't happen. I just drove around the problem and never found it bothered me

Just got a call they are fixing it was under warranty, they say it's the flywheel and there is no signs of wear on the clutch plate itself.
I noticed it when I got the car and googled the issue and found most people just lived with it as it didn't seem to develop. However after 10000 miles I was noticing it was getting bad if the car was full of people and I was trying to pull away. I'm just happy I don't have to foot the bill! |

My dad took his old E90 under warranty with this issue and was told this was the problem too. Apparently the valve was to help inexperienced drivers and stop them from stalling. I think we should start a thread: "The biggest load of bollocks said by a dealer"

The Clutch Delay Valve was for exactly that, was so you couldn't ping the clutch in true burnout style. Was essentially a restrictor in the pipe, and was easy to bypass also.

CDV removal (the clutch delay valve mentioned above) - which entailed full clutch/brake fluid replacment New clutch and flywheel (£1000 ish) And this 90% sorted it, it would be slightly noticable on first start on colder days (below 8C ish) but effectively did remove the judder otherwise. This was around 125-145k miles in. Sad to see the F30s are still suffering from this really... |

Every manual BMW I have driven in recent years has had this clutch judder. The dealer blamed it on 'elf and safety - something to do with asbestos removal. I think brake discs wearing quickly have been blamed on the same thing - asbestos removal from the pads.
Not sure if this was a genuine reason or an effective way to shut a customer up. Arguing about it being akin to saying you don't care about the health of their technicians... |

Agree completely. I was not a fan of the 6 (or fewer) speed slushmatics BMW have used in the past, so always specified a manual box, even if it meant getting bent over the desk on trade-in (540i). The ZF8 has changed all that. Such a fantastic box.
