BMS intake, CEL P120D

So does anyone know what this code means???

P120D

It's happened twice with my BMS intake.

BMS is unfamiliar with the code, and said they won't be able to assess until I get back to them with a description of this particular code

So has anyone else had issues with the BMS intake???

Thanks in advance

I'm getting the same code. I had it cleared, but it still persists. I wonder if the M235i installs have had the same problem.

This DME responds differently. My catsim is acting up too. Was fine. Wiring is fine. Really touchy car.

Well, my tech (who owns a modded m235), has said his customers have had "hit or miss" success with the BMS intake (in terms of a CEL).

I forwarded your info regarding the code to BMS, and the response was less than satisfying:

BMS:

I don't see how the intake could be related to a throttle position code. The throttle position sensor is in the throttle body near the intake manifold. The intake itself would have no effect on this sensor.

Best,

Jon
BMS

How about anyone here with a CEL email/contact BMS and tell them we are all getting the same code...

Thanks guys

Thanks. I admit it's a strange code. And this car is probably pretty finicky. However, I just think their response was a bit flippant, as if they didn't believe it could happen.

And I SWEAR, even before I knew what the code meant, this afternoon, while driving (CEL already present), I thought that the car was idling just a TAD bit rough. Since getting home from work, I have gone back to the stock airbox. CEL is still there, but the rough idle is gone. Again, I thought the car was idling rough BEFORE I knew what the code meant...

Again, the price we pay for being impatient early adopters

And you probably know this, but when installing, do NOT follow the PDF instructions. If you have a 6MT, you still do need to connect the vacuum hose to the intake, not leave it hanging and cap off the inlet hole on the intake, like BMS's instructions say. This was confirmed by another board member (I don't know how to post screen names), who also followed the directions, then contacted BMS when he got a CEL. However, we both have since installed the intake correctly, cleared the code, and in both cases the CEL returned.

Bummer. Thanks for letting me know! Yeah I had a rough idle due to catless DP and the catsim. Took off the catsim and will just be living with the code until my jb4 comes in. I will be sure to run intake only and let you know if I get that same throttle code.

I had that intake on my m235i and was getting the same code, switched back to stock and never got it again! Unfortunately a lot of these open cone intakes throw codes, BMS is not the only one from the m235 platform.

The same exact code? Interesting. Because Terry from BMS replied:

Terry:

I know a few M2 customers are running the intake and haven't received
this fault code. Did you read the code with a BMW tool so we can see
what it actually is? I suspect your OBDII description is incorrect. If
it's a MAF sensor related fault then it would be intake related.

I don't know how to reply; I'm simply giving them the code that has shown up twice now...

You using the A74 sim? I've heard they work fine for the regular N55 engines.

Hearing about all these codes makes me want to sit back a bit and wait for companies to actually put some R&D time into their products for the M2.

I don't want to be driving with the CEL on, mostly because it annoys me and also because I want to know if I get a code unrelated to the catless DP or the intake, i.e. fuel pump or injector or whatever. This CEL business on these intakes and DPs makes me sad

Yeah let me say that it could be install related. With that being said I've installed it 7 times. Tried everything. I would be very surprised if it was that. The 02 harness post clip could be damaged.

I wouldn't NOT but it. Just try and see how it works for you. I will be buying a new harness and trying again. I'm catless so the code is inevitable. I plan to flash tune once I move on the a bigger turbo. I'm not worried about it.

I'm really hoping this is all due to the vaccum install error. Burger should really point this out in a new instruction manual.

That's the common factor between the two cars throwing this code. Hopefully mine doesn't.

I was hoping for that too; however, I have since installed correctly, and still the code persists

And I did tell BMS about the faulty install, and they didn't mention that as a possible reason

And I agree, they really gotta fix their instructions

So your running just catless no cat sim leaving code on? I'm doing my catless downpipe next week no tune no sim waiting for a good tune to be made

Im in the same boat as you right now im running the catless downpipe with no Sim or tune and the code is tripped but it hasn't worried me too much. I might pick up the BMS can flap module to delete the CEL until a proper tune is released
