Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position ?/review
So I decided to compromise and save $100 and go with the S-04 instead of a new set of PSS.
Current setup - '07 335i e90 M bushings Hotchkis Sways PSS 225/40/18F S-04 255/35/18R When the S-04's got put on the tire pressure was about 32PSI....felt like I was driving on jello. Lots of traction but the car felt squishy/squirrely, and anything above 65mph was a bit unnerving. I bumped the psi up to 35ish and it felt about the same maybe a little better. I now have the tire pressure around 39psi and it finally feels stable, though initial turn in still feels a bit exaggerated. Is this normal? When I had PSS all the way around it felt planted, secure, turn in was sharp but not.....surprising. Unfortunately I never had to mess with the tire pressure before the switch so not sure where they were at. Just looking for a little confirmation or advice if this is normal with these tires. Like I said, lots of traction, on par with the PSS but just not as stable it seems.... Thanks for any help! Last edited by joeybutts; 07-13-2016 at 09:38 AM.. |

So you are running with different tires front to back? I have found that 38 psi is perfect for me.
I am curious of what others think about these tires also. I am thinking about going with these only to get the size I am looking for, otherwise I would stick with PSS. Current setup PSS: F 245/40/18 R 285/35/18 Next setup S-04: F 245/35/18 R 285/30/18 This will put my overall tire height closer to stock. |

Different tires can cause poor handling, but I doubt that is what you are seeing. You have a valid question on how the S-04 performs.
I doubt 285's would fit on stock rims, I have 10" rims on the rear. |

The S-04's are good performers, however they will only last about half as long as PSS's (or so the Costco tire guy told me)
Also read car and drivers review of summer tires. Not sure why you would have two of each though. Also there's no way you can fit a 285 on a stock E90 rim. |

Yes more understeer, but I personally like the feel of my setup. 245's square will not go around a corner any faster than 245/285. When I used to track, I would prefer more balance, but I also had less unpredictable hp. A normally aspirated car can be much more predicable to push the limits. On my daily driver, I do not want the back-end coming loose on a public street. That is easy to do when you tune your car very aggressively. Look at my mods in my sig, good power for stock turbos. And yes I like the look of a wide ass. I just noticed your from Milwaukee, I have an apartment there for business. Any good playgrounds to run a car? I was thinking about running Mid-Ohio this year. |
