Opinion on slightly used 2016 328i xDrive
Howdy dudes.
I wanted to get some opinions on a couple local deals in my area. * http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/ctd/5659815468.html * http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/ctd/5659840670.html Both cars are USED 2016 328i xDrives and only come wiht 3 options: 1 -- Driver assistance package (rear view camera and park distance control) 2 -- Moonroof 3 -- Heated seats If I option a car out on bmwusa.com, with the same options, the MSRP is 44,395 (after destination). These used cars have about 5000 miles and they are asking $37,600 That's 6795 off. But the thing is, I'm guessing I could get a new car for about 5% / 2K off MSRP. Which then makes the difference between new and used closer to about $4700. What do you think a nearly stripped 2016 328i xDrive is worth? Consider that the 2016s come with the sport seats standard, too. I'm a reluctant to buy a new 2017 330i due to the concern over time chain assemblies with the new engine. Plus, I'm already spending more than I want. A used 2015 might work too, but by the time I get a package with the sport seats, I'm probably up to the price of these 2016s with a lot more mileage. Thanks, -Nathan |

If you're already looking in the slightly used market I'd look for a well equipped 2013-2014 with low mileage.
Out of your options I'd still go for the slightly used. 5000 miles is nothing But this is coming from someone who will never buy a new car again. With some patience and lots of research it's amazing how much you can save buying used. Why take the majority of the depreciation hit when someone else can |

Did you go to your nearest dealer and haggle?
You are not going to pay MSRP for a 2016 328 and even better is if they still have leftover 2015 328s on their lot. I'd be aiming for 3-4k off MSRP at that list price and its very doable.. for the 2015s even more off. |

For that price, you are better off shopping the CPO market. The CPO warranty will be longer, and you will get maintenance included. Keep looking.

I just clicked on your links--my bad assumption since they were Craiglist that this was private sale. These are both from dealers. 5000 mile 2016 used cars probably are being sold CPO. I do think you have negotiation room.
Instead of looking on Craigslist, use AutoTrader, narrow your search parameters, and widen the search area to 100 miles. You will see everything that's out there. |

PS: I agree a 2013 would be the best year to get, depreciation wise. However, I'd like to get the revised timing chain design in cars produced after Jan of 2015. I suppose I could get a 2013 along with some sort of warranty in case there's a catastrophic engine failure. That would be cheaper.
I could consider a 2013 335 xDrive too, I guess. The poor gas mileage of the 335 doesn't agree with me, but I've heard people say that the difference between the xDrive 328 and 335 isn't that big, in the real world? Seems hard to believe though. |

For comparison in July 2015 we got a 2014 F31 (328i Sportwagon) with 14k miles and Premium, Technology, heated seats for $38k with CPO Elite included which covers us for 5 years / 75k miles total. I think we ended up getting an extension on the factory maintenance plan by one year, forgot how much that was. Hope that helps for comparison. |

You get the balance of the warranty. If you buy a 2013 or earlier, you get the balance of the 4/50 maintenance. If you buy a 2014+, you do not get the maintenance transferred on a private sale, only on a sale from the dealer.

Notice that Bellevue is advertising in Portland's Craigslist - kind of bogus IMO - so you'll have to drive 180 miles to look at them. Bellevue BMW doesn't negotiate too much on their demos; probably get another $1K off but that's it. |

Three months ago I decided to make the jump to BMW and purchased a 2013 328 xdrive from the dealer for a better deal than 2015. My car comes equip with comfort, navi, heated steering wheel and front and rear seats. Still have the free maintenance and I purchase the extend warranty for ease of mind

I picked up a 2015 335ix Luxury Line CPO Elite with only 6600 miles with original MSRP of $56k for $41k!!! I was shocked to say the least and I swore up and down afterwards I'd never buy new again. |
