B58 retrofit oil dipstick

Is this possible because I really don't trust the sensor to be properly working several years from now.

Then you should probably trade your car in for something with a dipstick - there's no way to retrofit this. I've had 3 BMWs without dipsticks (07 335i, 11 128i, and 13 335i) and there's never been a problem with any of them related to the electronic oil sensor. Think of it this way: we landed on the moon with 1960s technology. Is 2000s technology really that unreliable, particularly for just measuring oil quantity? My 2007 335i coupe never had any issues in the 6 years I owned it, and rarely ever needed any oil added between changes. Same thing for 5 years with the 128i, and nearly 4 years now with my 335i.

Yeah annoying it's not easy to add one, my last A4 had no dipstick but you could buy one from Audi for $30 if you preferred to kick it old school.

Unfortunately I've picked up a lot of little signs suggesting BMW doesn't really cater to the DIY enthusiast, more the mass affluent status-seeking zombies. Undoubtedly a good business decision, doesn't mean I have to like it though.

There are many reasons why the number of sensors in almost every vehicle - including BMW - cars is increasing. Lowering the cost of warranty repairs is one.

Many forum members have reported problems which clearly occur, can be replicated by the dealer's service team, but no fault codes generated. As a result - repair procedures begin with 'let's replace Part A' and see what happens next. Multiple visit later, the problem still remains and neither customer nor BMW is satisfied (no one likes lingering problems with no clear root cause).

I'd like to see even more sensors but that takes time: new sensors have to be incorporated in design cycle, manufacturing, spare parts and repair procedures processes.

what year was the challenger launch? just saying.

i get his concern as i think most people do. i just don't know where you'd put it on the engine. kind of like how people want to add a 5th spare tire but without an actual well, it takes up so much room in the trunk that it's pretty impractical.

The sensor doesn't just measure quantity. It also measures temperature and appearantly also monitors "quality" but no one has ever gotten a clear answer as to how or what.... Might affect CBS oil change interval.

Even the E30 had a oil level sensor so it's not that new.

The sensor measures capacitance. IIRC it's a dielectric sensor.
