Got rear ended today on I5

Back bumper damaged a little. Not too bad but going to need a new one. Police report was filed. Am I going to face significant loss of value with accident showing on there?' Thinking about selling it after I get it fixed and going for possibly a 911

Some loss yes. Others have talked about getting reimbursed for loss of value but I have no personal experience with that.

I would think only if there were some sort of frame damage. If it's just cosmetic I don't see why that would matter.

Sorry to hear!

The good ole internet! Here's the Washington State statute that allows for diminished value, if the accident was not your fault.

It sounds fairly cosmetic, but you know that anybody that would buy the car would thorw any accident in your face, that they found on Carfax, and it will cost you something. Good luck!

it doesn't matter if the car was hit, keyed, or sunk in a lake. Anything on the carfax will diminish the value.

This. The accident will show on your CarFax since your VIN was recorded on the accident report filed by police. Dealers will use this record against you when you go in to trade-in your car, and potential buyers will also use it against you to pressure lowering your sales price if you choose to go private sale.

Shit.. a CarFax accident report of any kind on a BMW can lower the resale by upwards of 20%.

@OP my 15 X1 was recently hit and I am fighting for diminished value payout. Its the law here in GA not sure about where you live.

Car got fixed and looks great. Really happy with the results and service by Metro Auto Rebuild in Seattle. Keeping all the paperwork of repairs in case of future sale
