N20 timing chain

I have read that the timing chain is a known problem on the N20 engine on models before 2015. I have a 2015 that was built in 2014, so I assume it's still got the old timing chain. Will BMW proactively replace this part or is it something they will only change if its an issue?

Check to see if there's an open issue with your year/model build by checking with your dealer using your VIN i think thats how they're tracking it down

I'm going to ask my SA about this when I take her in for her final free service visit this month.

228i 02/16

Hi All,

I have a 02/2016 build with 47.000 Km approx and I was reading that after 2015 a new timing chain guide was designed. I was wondering if any of you can share a picture from a 2016+ model oil filler neck? I've read somewhere that even the new guides turn yellow over the time with the heat and oil? Picture attached.

Thanks!
