While we all have our different opinions, I thought the F10 looked too bloated and boring, and it kept me in my 08 550i. The G30 looks PERFECT to me, and fixes everything I didn't like about the F10.

The headlights look great to me - classy, but complex like the backside of a high end watch.

The taillights fix what I didn't like about the F10 - it felt like they drew in lines just to have lines, while the G30's lights look sleek and complicated - though I'm not sold on the blinkers being so humongous.

All in all, I'm in love. I'll test drive the 540ix as soon as it's in the showroom, and if it passes there, then I'll be one of the first in line for the M550i.

Thanks for all the work you put into the renderings over the last couple months, by the way. Now get to work on the M5!
Thanks for your comment, I do like the G30 but wish it looked a little sleeker, IE slimmer headlights and rear lights. For example Porsche made that transition in their latest 911 and they look the better for it...

About the M5, yes, I'll be working on some renders when I have a minute!

I'd wait for the 2nd year production so they can iron out issues of the 1st year ;-) Unfortunately looks like there won't be a 550i but a M (performance) 550i XDrive...

Cheers!

The M550i XDrive is available in Germany so maybe it will be in the US... See a previous post about the specs. V8 twin turbo and 0-62 mph in 4.6 secs!

I'm pretty sure it won't be available before the 2nd part of 2017, or even early 2018... It will be available in both RWD and AWD for the 1st time...

I was really looking forward to this car and hoping for 4.0 liter.

Annual taxes here for anything over 4.0 liter is just crazy.
M550i Xdrive (German version):
BMW M550i xDrive:
Achtzylinder-Benzinmotor,
8-Gang Steptronic.
Hubraum: 4.395 cm3.
Leistung: 340 kW/462 PS bei 5.500 min-1.
Maximales Drehmoment: 650 Nm ab 1.800 min-1.
Beschleunigung (0–100 km/h): 4,0 s.
Verbrauch kombiniert: 8,9 l/100 km*.
CO2-Emissionen kombiniert: 204 g/km.

I've lightened the colour of the car to show its design details.

I think it will be a great base for my future render of the M5 ;-)

Thanks for the clarification Paul.
It's just important to compare same values for different cars.
In this case E400 is 1745 (1820 = 68kg driver + 7kg baggage + 1745kg), so the difference is more realist 85kg not 160kg. Or 1735kg vs 1820kg according to the EU standard.

P.S
M550i xDrive 0-100 in 4.0s!!!!

Hi.

The Germans use both DIN and EU weights in their specs... At the German MB site they provide the EU weight (with 68kg driver and 7 kg luggage), which I only just found out in the fine print. The E400 4Matic weighs 1820kg! so if you compare to the 540i Xdrive, which is 1735kg (EU), you're right, the difference is 85kg... My bad!

What do you think, is there going to be a Performance and Sound kit for 540i?
I'm worried that they are not going to release it order not to cannibalize M550i, but with this kit 540i would be a sweet spot in Europe. Very close performance to the M550i, reasonable taxes and insurance in Europe, lower depreciation, lower running costs...

This is basically my idea, to take 540i xDrive and get P&S kit, but I'm afraid not to be let down by BMW

More interesting G30 available in Germany: the 530e iPerformance Hybrid.

BMW 530e iPerformance:
Inline 4 turbo Electric motor BMW eDrive (Plug-in-Hybrid),
Displacement: 1.998 cm3.
Power: 185 kW/252 PS (or 248 hp) from 4.460 rpm to 6.500 rpm. Maximum torque: 420Nm from 1.450rpm to 4.000rpm.
8-speed Automatic Steptronic.
0–100 km/h: 6,2 s.
Electric Range: 45 km* or 28 miles
Combined gas mileage (EU specs): 2,0 l/100 km* 117.8mpg.
Combined CO2-Emissions: 46 g/km.

Note that the batteries are located low and in front of the rear axle, which benefits mass centralization and makes for a lower center of gravity.
