Almost Sold on Black E90 ... Arctic Pestering Me Though! Help!
After several months of research I'm happy to say that I'm pretty close to finalizing a deal for a brand new 325i w/sport package.
Originally I was really sold on Sparkling Graphite, but after seeing it side by side in full sunlight next to a black (non-mettallic) model, I feel black looks better. The only other color surprisingly that has kind of come up as a dark horse is Arctic. I never really expected it, but everytime I've seen it in person I've been really impressed with this color. Its kind of like silver ... but not the kind of silver that everyone has. The slightly darker hue seems to compliment the E90's new design very nicely as well. Its quite unique for sure. I know there was a thread earlier here where a person took pictures of multiple E90s from a deal lot in different colors, but I searched the forum and haven't been able to find those pics. Can anyone help me out? I'd specifically like to see any shots of a black E90 with a Artic E90 in the same photograph. EDIT: I found the thread with the different colored E90s at a dealership ... anyone have any other pics of Arctic and Black in the same shot. A bit of an unusual request I know, but no harm in asking, right? Last edited by Swoosh; 06-14-2005 at 03:49 AM.. |

I'm in the same boat - kinda
I love the look of the sapphire black as well as the Monaco blue which is almost black and looks great at night, a neighbour has one. However I am very drawn to the Arctic Metallic. It definately grows on you and I think it provides a nice contrast especially with a black interior. I don't think it is a weak colour at all. It looks really nice in the showroom and takes on a different look outside. I'd like to see it at night. I think it makes the care look more substantial than silver. At first I thought the car only looked good in darker colours but I feel different now. I'm still on the fence! - I would like to see a red one just for the hell of it too. |

When my choice came down to Arctic or TiSilver, I asked my wife what she thought.
She said to me "Quien es mas Macho?" That sealed the deal. Also, I saw one in a parking garage next to a Chrysler Sebring in a color that was almost identical to the Arctic.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with black.
For a couple of reasons. For starters, I do plan to maybe do some minor after market mods so black should match just about any mod I want. Maybe something with lighting (I think blue LEDs would look cool). Also for paint nicks/scratches, I think it would be easier to fix up a more standard color like flat black than it would for a more obscure color like Arctic. Finally, if I ever want to sell the car down the road, it'll probably be easier to sell it in black than in Arctic. Oh well. Arctic was cool and I don't really get the "macho-less" feel from it. Then again both times that I've seen it, its had a mean set of rims on it under show room lights. |

I've always thought black looked the best, especially right after you detail it. I've had a black car for about 4 years and it always made you feel you did more to it right after you wax it. But the tiny micro swirls was always bugging me. No matter how you treat it, you'll still get swirls. That's why I went with sparkling graphite. It won't show swirls but still gives you the 'i just waxed my car and it looks shiny and rich' kind of look. I just spent 5 hours detailing my car yesterday and it looks popping. Another option would be teh sapphire black... but I personally don't like it. Arctic or TiSilver is always nice if you're a lazy 'i hate washing my car' kind of guy.

With Arctic, you will wake up one fine morn, look at that color and say, God I'm sick of this color. I wish I'd gotten black. If you get black, and keep it clean, you will always wake up, look at that car, and say, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! BMW's were made to be black. Just my thoughts. Drive fast. sparky |

I love how you guys can all predict the future about how he will be puking from seeing his Arctic car a year down the road
Get whichever color you think you like best. See them in person in various lighting conditions. Pictures just don't do justice to any of the E90 colors in my opinion.

Shoosh, I'm in the same boat as you are. I'll probably be ordering a 330 in September after the SMG issues are sorted out. I'm torn between black/terra and arctic/black. Black is classic and BMW's really look nice in it. However, I'm concerned about keeping it clean. Black shows everything all the time. Very hard to keep it looking like new. Arctic was never in the running. Then I went on a test drive event here in Toronto. They had an Arctic/black with the Aero package (front dam + spoiler) with the optional style 179 wheels. It looked hot!! I'm still torn. Probably won't decide until I actually drive to dealer to place my order.

FYI showed the dealer the speck and they acknowledged it was a defect and they apologized for it which is enough in my books. At least they didn't give me an attitude that it was my imagination or BMW is infallible. |

Swoosh asked for HELP
Armen52:
Swoosh asked for advice. He asked for help. Opinions. That's what he got. Opinions. Arctic blows imo. Black rules imo. If Swoosh didn't want opinions he wouldn't have asked. Swoosh, I agree with Armen about seeing colors in person. Absolutely. I have seen arctic in person. And I still say it's ugly. IMO. Now Terra, that's interesting. Good luck Swoosh. sparky |

I say go with your gut....if you liked black over SG then you obviously "get" the color black....even though it is common to you it looks great. Arctic is an interesting color...maybe in Canada you don't have as much bright sun as we have here but Arctic looks minty green in bright Cal. sun....but it looks awesome in overcast skies. I need more predicatability in my color...and black certainly always looks black. Go buy yourself some really nice car washing accessories and go with black.

My friend has black E60 and he scratches his head every time it rains because the car looks so ugly after even a little bit of dirt/dust has collected on the rain drops and dries up. My Arctic E90 can last for a week or two of continuous raining without me worrying so much about how it looks because dirt doesnt show as much on that color. If you have plenty of time to clean your car then maintining a black car could be worth the extra effort, but for someone like me who has to work long hours and spend time with my wife, go to the gym and has other interests, Arctic is hard to beat. But that's just me
