340i B58 MidPipe Options?

I know of AWE Tuning and Dinan. Any others? Are they bolt on or do they require cutting? Both are about $500, seems a little pricey for just some exhaust tubing.

I'm toying with having an exhaust shop just cut out resonator and weld open pipe. Just not keen on not having reversibility.

Are there really just two resonators in the midpipe and the first and second catalytic converter are located in the downpipe, just as the N55?

Thats what I am doing. My friend had it done at our local shop already. The guy cut out the resonator, took a peice of stainless pipe, flared the ends, slipped them on and band clamped them in place. His exhaust is leaking a little so he is going to weld them this week.

It was like $125 to do. That was including buying the guy lunch.

Yes it is compatible with stock muffler... Dual pipe will give a more aggressive sound

I'm not sure I'm buying this whole dual pipe design on a car with a single turbo. Having two pipes not only makes the system heavier but in increases the amount of turbulence from unnecessarily flow splitting and then flow merging down the path...and if you want to get even more technical it also has higher flow drag coefficient from having greater internal wall surface area.

I would venture to guess keeping exhaust pulses merged from a single turbo all the way back to be the winning combo for performance numbers.

I seen the Dinan one is 500, but AWE is 650, why would the price go up over the years?

I originally had the Dinan but then sold it when I decided I wanted to quite things down a bit - year later I missed it and just went to my local muffler shop and had the resonators deleted for $100. Not as pretty but end result was the same (as you would expect)

Does anyone know if the Dinan or AWE midpipes will fit with the Active Autowerke axle back exhaust? I have the Active Autowerke axle back exhaust on my 340i and like it but would like a more aggressive sound and know that a performance midpipe should do the trick. I do also have the Active Autowerke high flow catted downpipe which I love. Hopefully adding a performance midpipe won't make it too loud for me (and my neighbors).
