Parked until inspection ... sucks

I had my 1200 miles inspection scheduled for 11 Apr but I have to call tomorrow and get it changed ... FOR ASAP. Man, 1200 miles came and went fast. I now have 1213 miles but the interesting part is I-drive (info/car data/service/oil) states I still have 130 miles to go. Oil is in the yellow and everything else is green. Anyway, just thought I would post this since I see folks having sevice pop up at +-650 miles.

Even mine showed service at 1300 miles. Take it to your dealer immediately. Check with them for the availability of filters as well. I had to wait for a week for them to arrive.

so I go in today to see if he can get me in earlier ... now it's scheduled for Thurday. Then I ask do I have to pay since we get 4 years free maintenance; fastest answer I ever got ... YES. And what will be the damage I ask? Well we need to change the engine oil, tranny oil, and differential oil so that will be 450 Euros. 450 Euros is $700.00.

Shit....there goes "Free Maintenace" ... BTW, I will be passing around a collection plate shortly..

I guess I should have mention that I am still in Germany. I am now trying to decided if it is worth in paying $700 just to drive it for less than 2 weeks here before I ship it. If I wait, then I can get it free in the states.

Very hard dilema I am in.

Yes, tough call indeed. If I were in any country other than Germany I would probably wait. But when will you get another opportunity to drive it flat out on the autobahn post break-in? Plus obviously you have to hand over the keys to somebody to get it shipped back and I would feel better if it had been serviced, just in case

Althoug a rip-off i still think it's money well spent. Once you are back in the states, going 70mph looking out for the cops, you'll regret not having done it.

Agree and going to pay the $$$$$$$$$ to get it done on Thursday. To cut down the cost, I could bring in the engine oil, since BMW charges 25 Euros per liter ... it takes 9 liters. Finding 10W60 full synthetic to purchase has become a huge challenge here. I think BMW purposely recommends this uncommon weight just so you purchase theirs.

I just gotta keep thinking, I saved a shit load through the MSP so $700.00 is still worth it.

A little semi-OT food for thought... When you have the car in for the 1200 mile service you may want to ask them for a battery kill switch. It's simply a little switch with a wire cable that plugs into a wire harness under the passenger side rear seat. Saves the battery for sure, but I *think* the kill switch will also put the car back into transport mode (you will need to verify that with them). Most dealers have a box full of them

Senior, some guys are talking about getting a credit from your dealer back in the states. this was in reference to ED, but it might also apply to us military guys. i'd recommend you save the receipt and see what they can do for you stateside once you register the car with BMW NA. my CA in ansbach said 100 euros for the service if i bring the oil. i think they are full of shit because everyone is saying 450 euros.

I guess it's just me but if this is a new BMW and you chose Euro delivery rather than US delivery, why should you be penilized for that? It is, after all, the same new BMW that it will be when it arrives in the states...stupid move BMW, penilizing a new customer for Euro delivery

Why do you park it?
I turned mine 1200 - and I still had 3 or 4 days till my service, and drove it until then. I think my 1200 mile service was actually at 1350 or so...

No one told me that I was not allowed to drive it...

Some of the members had to wait for parts when they went to the dealership for their 1200 mile service. So they either left it at the dealer or did not drive the car until the parts came in.
