Tire life & leasing.. dealer said front should be fine...

Hey guys,

I have a 39 mo lease - with 32,500 miles allotment. I am going to be probably at 30K or just under by when my lease is over.

Currently I'm at around 15K miles. In October when I went in for service, they said my rear tires will be about shot in the next 6 months, but they said the front would be OK throughout the lease.

However, how concerned should I be with BMW and how they inspect the tire life?

What's your experience with the OEM Mixed Performance Runflats (Bridgestone Potenza)?

I'm in a dilemma because I can buy a set of 4 (of a different runflat brand) for just a bit more than 2 rear tires! But don't want to waste money either.

Bridgestone Potenza S001 tires on my previous vehicle - MY13 335i xDrive sedan - lasted about 26K miles and had to be replaced. It's very likely that at 30K your tires will be ready to be replaced and the lease return inspection will highlight it.

I'm on 20k at the minute and all 4 are wearing fairly evenly. Roughly got 3mm on backs and 4mm on fronts.
Think I'll get mine done soon in the colder weather I've notice it get a lot more skittish than it was last year when it had some decent tread.

Do tell what this other brand is? I'm also on bridgestones but been looking at Goodyear eagle F1s which are a bit cheaper.

hmmm well i jynxed myself... i think it was the pirelli P7's (high performance ones not ultra high) but now they're at $903 for a set of 4 on tirerack. but the oem bridgestone s001 are at $1093. still cheaper... but not as good as they were. I'll have to keep an eye on them, i think they were down to like $750 at one point.

the dealer said the front's should be ok, but the rear have to be replaced. were your like that or did you have to replace all 4?

I had to replace all four tires. By the way, you don't have to buy new tires. Just buy slightly used tires from one of the forum members and mount them shorty before returning the vehicle. As long as the tread wear is within specified lease return guidelines, the inspection will conclude without any issues.
