Different size wheels on car okay? (Temporary)

Hey Guys,

We just had a small snow fall in Montreal and of course I decided to put on my winters on my newly acquired 335i M-Sport. The dealer gave me some new wheels and somewhat used Pirelli winters, however there seems to be two flats on there . The dealer apologized and is currently ordering us two new tires.

In the meantime, I need to make the car useable, would you guys see a problem with having two winters on the front and two summers in the back on an AWD?

Here are the sizes:

Front: Pirelli Sottozero 225/45/18
Back: Potenzas 255/35/19

This would only be for a couple of days until the new ones come in. I've heard some urban legends that he can screw up the transmission. I don't want to put back all summers in case it snows again. Those tires are almost done therefore zero grip.

Well, I *THINK* they're the right sizes (overall diameter/circumference), even though they're different size wheels. The 255 is the correct rear for 19" staggered set, and the 225 is the correct front for 18" staggered set.

Weird as it seems, will work for a couple days - if the DSC/ABS light comes on, stop driving and complain.

That's cool. I don't mind have some lights on, I just would prefer not to ruin any engine aspects of the car. I thought the same thing...diameter should be VERY close therefore should not upset computer too much until I get my new set.

Accepted wisdom is never mix summers and winters as you risk spinning the car with mixed grip back and front.

The reason to stop driving if lights come on is that the car is telling you that the wheels are rotating at different speeds and you may damage your drive train if you keep driving.
