Xpel/PPF and CF performance parts

Taking delivery of my long awaited M2 next week, and considering applying Xpel on it given the positive comments in this forum. I opted in for the CF front and side 'winglets' from the factory, and wondering if there would be any problems applying Xpel with those installed since these parts stick out in ways that look like it'd make it difficult. I thought I read that those parts are attached with adhesive so it seems like removing and reapplying them could be a pain. Thoughts?

1) Install xpel with other mp parts on car.

2) Wrap winglet.

3) Install winglet, it is bolted on from the bottom, not adhesive.

I'm actually having extreme colors apply xpel today and mine was the first one they had seen with the winglets. They think it shouldn't be a problem but calling today if any issues. So if your doing PCD then I would recommend them. They have been so great the entire time!

they may need to remove it but if BMW installed it with their glue it will possibly not be worth the installer's time to risk damaging the bumper.

we just did one that was port installed and they did use the glue, we wrapped the winglet no issue but we had to trim behind the winglet area as we were not successful in wrapping the area behind the winglet.

we have seen this on a few Ferraris were the templates did not cover the area blocked by cf or aero pieces installed by the factory.

Exactly what I've done. Get my car back on Monday, then I'll be installing the wrapped winglets. To be clear just the leading edges and outsides are getting wrapped.

So.... You are saying that the winglets will be held sturdy only using bolts, not using adhesive thing? I'm just wondering because I know that the winglet is supposed to be installed with both bolts and adhesive per some people on the forum.

I would definitely cover them in Xpel. After 3500 miles the one vulnerable area of my car (rocker panels) that I didn't cover in Xpel has been taking a bit if a beating so I am sure those CF parts will do the same. Additionally I would have the whole front, rockers and rear haunches covered. The factory covering over those haunches is not large enough and the Xpel is way more transparent. Congrats on your car.

Thanks, this is interesting. So I imagine both the bad of the winglet and the area of the bumper and rocker behind it is unwrapped? How visible are the edges?

Makes sense. Those are exactly the areas I was thinking of getting protected. Thanks for the tip.

Xpel vs suntek on alpine white car

Anyone here has xpel on an alpine white car?

I've yet to decide to go with xpel ultimate or suntek.

They say xpel is bit more obvious than suntek. But has better protection.

Concerns being on a white car the ppf is more obvious if using xpel?

It's actually bolted on AND adhesive.

We recently installed XPEL Ultimate Self Healing film on a customer's Alpine White M2! The lines are barely noticeable.

On my AW I went xpel on the front bumper, hood, headlights, fenders, rockers, mirrors, A pillars, 1/3rd roof, front of the rear wheel arch and behind the wheel arch. Truthfully it is visible from about 5 feet away, especially where there aren't complete panels like the A pillars, roof, and wheel arches. Beyond 5 feet it is impossible to notice. I knew this before I got the xpel work done, no regrets. Now when I hear little rocks, I don't freak out.

Having XPEL on a white vehicle, if installed properly, is nearly invisible. An added benefit, with XPEL ULTIMATE, is the warranty. The film has a 10-year warranty against yellowing, peeling, cracking, delaminating. So if XPEL turns yellow, take it to an XPEL installer and if it cannot be corrected, we'll replace it with film and labor

A few questions about XPAL Ultimate. Interested in getting the hood, front, and mirrors done…

Do the headlights get film?

About how long should that take to install?

Does it come as a kit or is the film cut to size by the installer?

How long after application, can you drive the car at highway speeds?

Thanks!

Do the headlights get film? Yes, the film goes on the headlights to help prevent pitting and damage

About how long should that take to install? To get a full front (full hood, full fenders, front bumper, headlights and mirrors) typically takes a full day. Drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon...some installers may ask for two days

Most installers have a plotter which runs an XPEL program that cuts the film to fit precisely on your vehicle. The program allows for full panel coverage with wrapped edges (where possible) so it provides a nearly seamless installation.

How long after application, can you drive the car at highway speeds?
You should be ready to go right from picking up the vehicle. Your installer will tell you to only hand wash the vehicle for a few days and avoid direct spray with a pressure washer if you wash your own vehicle after the allotted time has passed.
