Just wanted to get a few opinions from you guys before I move forward with an idea I have.

I recently bought a staggered set of wheels and tires for my 2014 320i Xdrive with stock suspension. The fronts are 225/40r19 on 8.5" (+35) wheels and the rears are 255/35r19 on 9.5" (+37) wheels. Everything fits fine, my only gripe is that the tires are a tad bit stretched on the wheels. I absolutely despise that look. I want my tires to hug the wheels without any of the wheel's lip sticking out.

Here's my idea, you tell me if you think it's doable...

I want to ditch my front 225/40r19 tires all together. I'd then move the rear 255/35r19 tires onto the front 8.5" (+35) wheels and purchase a set of 285/30r19 tires for the rear on the 9.5" (+37) wheels.

My questions are-

1. Will the 255 width on the fronts and 285 width on the rears fit without any substantial rubbing? I remember reading more than a few posts written by people who were running as wide as a 265 width on the fronts, I'm just double checking to be sure.

2. Will the slightly larger difference in the tire circumferences still fall within a reasonable range for the all-wheel drive to function properly? I'd be going from a 0.06" difference to a 0.3" difference.

I've included a sample picture of one of my current tires that is a bit stretched on the wheel. Also, I've included pictures of tire size comparisons for my current setup versus the setup I'm thinking about switching to.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!

255 will fit up front with ET35, but the main issue will be 285 rear tires.

With rear ET37, even 275 is aggressive. It could be possible with 285 on F30 but the offset needs to be around 45.

Your options is to look for a 235/265 or 245/275 setup, but then you have to change all four tires. You better wait until your current setup has worn down.

Thanks so much for the advice and suggestions.

To clarify, when you say the 285 will be too aggressive in the rear, are you referring to how much it may stick out past the fender?

Yes, thats one thing.

But I'm almost sure those tires also will rub the fender with ET37.

Ahh, gotcha.

That's too bad, I was hoping I'd be able to get away with just purchasing two tires instead of four.

Not ideal, but, you could put 255/35/19 on all 4. The back 2 you have already stretched, you could get new 255s put them on the front. The fronts will look proper and fit correctly, and the back will be the same stretched...

But I agree, if the tires are close to being worn, wait and get 4 new ones in the 235/265 ratio or similar

Yeah, unfortunately the tires are brand new, so if I do wait until they're worn, which is clearly the most financially sound option, it's gonna be a while.

I am running the following:

19X8.5 et35 245/35R19
19x9.5 et40 285/30R19

Tires are Continental ExtremContact, no rubbing what so ever but after 2 summer the transfer case seems to not like the way the tires are wearing down. After putting my winter tire back on 225/50R17 square setup its all back to normal.

my initial setup was also staggered 225/40R19 and 255/35R19 so now I have to find a better setup

PS: I am not dropped at all but the car is Sportline setup

Good to know. Thanks so much for the info!

Do you have any photos of the 245/285 staggered setup, by any chance?

if you had a 2 wheel drive I would say go for it but considering that you have a xDrive like I do and I still can't put my finger on the issue I noticed this past summer, it wasn't traction control so I have to assume that it was the transfer case do it. But I love the way it looks and drove for the first 2 summers, I have to measure the tire now and see how far they are from when new. I will post back

The wheels were purchased from
