Driving to Big Bear/Mammoth
Just wanted to know what tires everyone is driving on that go to the mountains.
I have a 435 X drive but have summer tires and have been doing some slipping. Looking to get new A/S tires for my wheels. Its either that or I have stock rims at home and maybe just get snow tires for those. Any recommendations would be fantastic. Thanks!

Going to Canada soon so I've been doing some research on driving in the snow. Even with a 4WD vehicle, you'd be skating on ice with summer tires. At the very least switch to A/S tires (preferably with M+S marking) and have chains ready (you can always return them if unused). I'm unsure of the road conditions there so this may not apply. Snow tires are preferred but do cost quite a bit. Probably won't need them again in SoCal.

If you rarely go then I say just buy chains. I took my 335i rwd to Boreal without chains on Michelin PSS but it was a hell of a drive. Definitely carry chains just in case. Regardless of tires.

I live in the Rockies and drive in the snow all the time. After doing a lot of research and trying out a few brands, I keep buying the Continental DWS. Decent summer tire and does an amazing job in snow and rain. Ice it's just okay, but better than the others I've tried.
