Available wheels
Palbay do you have any photos of style 212, 5 spoke wheel on an x6? I see all the style 214, 20" y spoke photo's (don't care for them) and the 20" 259 star spoke (will only offer them with v8 in the states-bummer as I would get those) No photo anywhere of what is supposed to be std with sport package on 6cyl the 212. Any clues? I have a 6 ordered with these wheeels but NO way to see what they look like on vehicle. Cheap

nope those are the std 19" non sport package style 232. They told me I don't get those with sport pkg, and it's on my order for style 212 19". Palbay thanks for you help though. I was told the 212's are on the sport package for x5, 3.0 but have not seen them on x6. Cheap

I WANT the 20" 259's but they are only offering them in euorpe for the 6cyl. I was told that BMW was trying to limit their sku's and offer more "set packages" like other manufaturer's, yet the make the mini in a 1000 possible combos. I perfer the cafeteria approach where you order just what you want. But please don't take the chocolate cake (259's) OFF the menu! Since these are built to order how hard is it anyway. Cheap

Nope those are 20" 259's not 19" 212's but nice try palbay! These are the ones I want (259's) but the brains in marketing are only making them available in the states with the V8. You can get them in Euorpe with the v6. Go figure. Cheap

Suzie's Dad, yep that's the sytle they are making std, with the v6 sport pkg equiped x6. I have never seen them on the car. The web site in the US does not even mention them or show them. I was wondering if anyone has a pic of them 0n an x6. I have my artist at work photoshoping them on today, and will post when he is done. The 212's are kinda chunky and boring, plus you can get them on the x5 3.0, so what's so special about offering that for the x6 which costs 6200.00 more? Cheap

Hey Cheap,
Back on page 2 of our blog, mid way down, you will find a thread called ‘New BMW X6 Photos’. Last reply was by me on 02-03-2008. Are these the Style 212..? Whatever they are, they highlight my concern that the 9” wide wheel in the back of the X6 may look hideous! The 11” fill out to the fender flare, but the standard 9” wheels look way too inset… not too small for the car, just too sunken under the fender… |

Morty you are right those do look bad in the wheel wells. One of the reasons is width the other is size those are 18" x 8.5"wheels. But I have the same concern about 19 x 9 style 212 that is std with sport package. Here is the link to all the BMW wheels http://www.k-lach.net/ . I'm calling my CA this AM and ordering the y spoke. I'm not crazy about them but they will look better than 212's. I hope BMW marketing is listening-Please offer 20" 259 for both models. Add Poplar wood while your at it. Cheap

x6 wheels photoshoped
Here is the x6 with the style 19"x9", 212 std sport pkg wheel and the optional 20"x11", 214 wheel (950.00 option). 212's don't look that bad but not that good either, just OK me thinks, but it's what I'm staying with.Cheap

I love the 214's on a X5. But I just don't think they look right on the X6.
IMO, the 212's 5 spoke styling is much better suited for the coupe like body. Although, 19" are a bit small for such a small car. 20"-21" is much better. I really like the 5 spoke 20" upgrade for the xDrive50i! |

Mtech8 I agree the 212's do look small (saw them in person at dealer, it's more an issue off 9" width), and the 214's look huge (11" at rear) so I may go that way, still have a few weeks before start of production. I will post photos once it arrives. Cheap

Hey Cheap,
… just for the record, what is the color of the car you used in the Photoshop photos above?? White, Titanium Silver, or Mineral Silver? Also, if you go the big wheels (staggered with 11” in back), are you concerned about tire life? Not being able to rotate will definitely shorten things a bit – won’t it? I’ve never had staggered sizes on anything I’ve owned. If you wear the rears out first, can you replace them without replacing the fronts? I thought on all-wheel-drive cars, you needed to keep the tires at pretty-much the same tire diameter (wear / age)… any thoughts? |

Morty, that is Titanium. Yes, no rotating will shorten the tire life a little. My past BMW's would go thru 2 sets of rears for every set of fronts. Rear wheel drive I guess. I had an front wheel drive rx300 lexus that did just the reverse. But since the power on the x6 is split 40-60 I think these should wear about the same. Cost seems to be the only issue as the 315/35/20 rear tires are a good 40.00-50.00 more for each one. Cheap

I have staggered 20-inch wheels on my X5. There is not a huge difference in wear between fronts and rears, but the rears do wear more on the inside than the outside, due to the X5's camber. The 20's on the X6 are half an inch wider than on the X5, so I would expect the same problem. Best Canadian price for four Michelin Diamaris, mounted and balanced, is $2,000. I imagine you can do a fair bit better than that in the US, but the tires still ain't cheap, Cheap. (Did I really write that?...) |

Yes it is cheaper here in states. Front toyo proxes st size 275 40 20 are 187.00, rear 315 35 20 are 240.00 at Discount tire store. Maybe run flats are more $$ still not bad. Those diamaris are nice tires but very expensive in the states also. Interesting info about the camber and the rear tires I'll keep an eye out for that when car gets here. Went back and changed order to y spoke 214's big enough to look good. Cheap
