New A5

In contrast to that lovely Volvo just posted by TouringPleb , I saw my first new-shape Audi A5 up close today.

Well, I say new-shape, the rear lights had gone a bit 3D. Everything else was an exercise in tedium and so similar to the old model, except somehow worse.

I'd find a link and post it but I fear it would put me to sleep Any review would only bang on about the magic dashboard anyway!

Could be I need to see a nicer one, but this one did nothing for me. I really liked the original A5, so I think I was hoping for them to move the game on a little more than they have.

Agreed. And Audi moving their design on is the definition of hope over experience isn't it! I've seen glaciers act with more haste.

All the car journos were raving about the new A4 when it landed too, but I reckon it's positively dangerous. Just looking at one next to you on the motorway could trigger a narcoleptic episode, causing a mass pile up...

Says something when the most interesting feature you can find on a new model is the rear lights!

I find new Audis smart and nice but spending that much money do you want 'nice'? I want something that when you walk across the supermarket car park you see your car and you get an emotional reaction. Audis just don't give me that.

New S5 on order. Pretty nice motor I would say. Gives 440i run for its money.

Lucky you - I'm very jealous as that's my next car (came from the previous gen A5 3.0TDi which I loved). I got offered a fully loaded S5 with 18% off (Bolton Audi through Carwow) but then found out I've got £6.5k negative equity in my 435 - so will have to leave it until May 2018 when I hand the BMW back.

I heard loud exhaust note this morning when driving in town and it was S5 I think previous generation but it was Coupe with Quad exhausts driving hard in front of a TT in front of me. Very nice car. I'd choose it over 40 because of that mean looking 4 exhaust pipes.

It looks the same as the last one, but then BMW are falling down in that regard as well if the new 5 series is anything to go by.

Cheers pal. Got good leasing offer , went to Audi for test drive and secured the deal almost instantly. This thing drives so well. All you need is Virtual Cockpit , differential and B&O sound. It has a presence that 4 series is missing , better engine and fit and finish. Interior is a step down for S8 but all in - great package given the price (460 inc vat)

It was indeed hope over experience!

Agree on the A4 too, dull as ditchwater. They actually seem to be taking their designs backwards rather than forwards.

I hope they don't screw up the A6 next, the current one has a bit of presence.

Yep, S5 no doubt a different story. Most Audi S models look a lot better than the A models.

I still think the run of the mill 4s have the edge for looks over the run of the mill A5s though, and that's despite being several years older.

Me too ordered October and it's due to start build in March. (Sportback) hope it arrives before April and tax changes. Plus my current car needs to go back by March 3

You are going to love it! My S8 gives me goose bumps every time I drive it. Its just too quick for UK roads - S5 seems like a sweet spot - brilliant interior , good exhaust note , decent amount of toys as standard. Ohh , you don't need to replace half of suspension to make it usable

Yes because Audi are known for their well judged and executed Sports suspension aren't they, not to mention epic under steer, overly servo-ed brakes and engines that don't produce the claimed bhp (RS4 and R8)

Just test drove a new s5, sad to say the tragic understeer is still there from the old model, turning up a motorway sliproad at not even a fast speed was a nightmare, the salesman mentioned it could have been the tyre pressures low..yeah right! such a shame as the care was lovely overall.

Had to walk past the narcolepsy inducing A5 again today; I fear it's a permanent addition to our next-door car park.

It's also in that very special non-metallic black that all the manufacturers are equally guilty of churning out.

Perhaps you are right , I can live with "epic" understeer , can you live with Toyota Yeti interior?

I probably could. But, let's be honest, that's not what a BMW interior is, is it? My wife has a Toyota (Auris) and I owned an Avensis in the past - unsurprisingly the F3x is vastly superior, as it should be.

I do know that it's the understeer and crashy ride that irritates me most about the Toyotas, far more than the interior.
