Insurance recommendations - ex company driver

So gents, the time is approaching when I need to buy my own insurance.

I'm switching from a company that covers private cars on it's corporate policy, to a company that asks for the driver to arrange their own policy. I have years of claim free driving with the company insurance and they'll provide proof of 3 years max (that's all they search back by).

The question is - any recommendations on a broker who can find a decent deal? All the comparison sites tend to focus on high NCB, low risk cars and offer little outside this. I need an expert to find me a deal.

Thanks....

I used a broker in Leeds
They used the full 12yrs I had been driving on the company policy and shifted it onto my private policy as the company one wouldn't cover me because of my jail conviction when I came out

I went on Compare the market and it had a bit on NCD based on driving a company car then went with LV through them as this was the best price

LV will honour it.

Also try Aviva as I've always found them competitive for new business, but take the piss at renewal. They honour company certificate too.

Once you get through first policy, it's converted to NCD on your record I've found as your next certificate doesn't distinguish between two, just use normal market comparisons then. Been through this three times, know the hassle you're going through - some companies accept as full ncd, some part and some don't at all, it required calling around

Thanks guys.

I've managed £915 from LV with a tracker... or

£968 with Admiral with no tracker needed... or

£827 with Admiral for their 10 month 'Bonus Accelerator' policy (you earn 1yr NCB in 10 months)

All good quotes so mulling them over presently....

As long as you have written statements of no claims via an employer's insurer, and/or proof of no claims via other policies i.e. named driver on your wife's policy, I've found that some companies will recognise your no claims via a special discount (Admiral being one).

I've been with A-Plan Thatcham for the past 18 months and even though my personal no claims has now dropped from 11+ years to 1 year (as in actual no claims rather than recognised no claims) my premium hasn't increased.

The only proof you need is a letter from your company. They don't need anything from the insurers. Can't you get someone to sign it? I wrote my own letters in the format the insurers asked for and just asked my current and previous companies to sign them. I got the 9 years I was after.

I can send you a copy of the letter if you like?

I live in Walton now, just off Matlock Road. About 4 years ago I lived on the next estate back down from where you were, Holme Park Avenue at Upper Newbold.

We still go up to Cutthorpe a lot, the Peacock pub had a refurb a couple of years ago and now does great food and has a nice beer garden at the back.

Elephant honored the company no claims I had, had to get a signed letter from the company insurers counter signed by my boss. Sorted it no problem.

Thanks, I've got the letter form our company broker - there is simply no consistency in how insurers take this into account!

I shortlisted Admiral, Elephant and Bell in that order (couple of quid in it) and dropped LV on the basis I would have to pay for a tracker.

For an extra £4 I've managed to get my dad covered - the 50d will keep him young!

Again, thanks for all the guidance - will be easier next year.
