Private plate
Just bought wife a mini cooper s, pick it up next Wednesday. I would like to put a private plate on it for her. Question is, how long from buying the plate to putting it on the car. Would it be on by next Wednesday, or am I too hopeful? The plate is on DVLA website.

Probably, yes. DVLA are pretty quick these days, and they've embraced online.
Purchase it and you may well get the email which authorises the use of it instantly. The reference number can then be used to put the plate on the car instantly too. |

It won't be next Wednesday, 2 - 3 weeks from buying it to actually having it on the car is probably more realistic, maybe a bit sooner but not next Wednesday.

You can put it on instantly depending on where you buy from. I bought one a month ago from one of the online sites and it was on the car the next day. It's instant online now.

Though it does say this on the dvlc site:
"For online purchases bought through this website, you will receive an email confirmation of sale within 24 hours, and a Certificate of Entitlement (V750) will be posted to the address you gave, which you should receive within two weeks. This is your proof of entitlement and the application form you must use to assign the registration number to a vehicle. For auction purchases, you should receive the Certificate of Entitlement (V750) within two weeks after your payment has cleared. You must apply to DVLA to assign the registration number to a vehicle. You must not display the registration number on a vehicle until you have received confirmation from DVLA in the form of a Registration Certificate (V5C) in the new registration number. You have until the expiry date shown on your certificate to have the number assigned to a vehicle." But it's not right, even when you take a plate off a car when you sell it you can change the plates instantly. |
