Best source / best price for replacement wheel?
Scratched one of my wheels, badly enough to need replacement. I shudder at the retail price from a BMW dealer. Does anyone know where to get the best possible price on a replacement (front) M2 wheel?

Check the M3/4 forums since a lot of those guys have 437m wheels on their cars too.

Lowest price I've found is $350 OEM. Free Shipping. Seems like a deal.

Try putting Sun BMW into the google machine and see how that works out for you. Call them and ask for Brian.

That HubcapHaven place may not be what you want. Here's what their website says about their "OEM" wheels:
"Our M4 stock (OEM) rims are reconditioned to factory specifications, or if available, brand new OE replica wheels, manufactured to factory specifications in ISO-9000 certified facilities." If you're looking for a new, OEM wheel, that place is not what you want. You can take your chances on Ebay, or just bite the bullet and go to a dealer like Sun Motors or anywhere you can find a decent price. |

I will try Brian at Sun BMW. I'm curious what price they'll give me and will report back here with that information.
Those other reconditioned wheels are an unbelievable price, but I'm worried about the finished product. My own scratched wheel has now been reconditioned (by my dealer) and it looks ugh! The problem is that the brushed alloy around the outer edge of the rim drops down into spokes which are surrounded by black and as soon as they sand / polish the brushed alloy section it changes color. They sanded down the outer rim to removed the nicks and scratches and it's a different color from the rest of the spokes... hard to explain but ugly. Sanding down the spokes to match would just leave me with one wheel a different color from the other three. Lesson for everyone - be really careful with those wheels. I was just changing the original summer wheels over to winter wheels and stood one up on the driveway and it fell onto the pavement face down. Toast. Couldn't believe how scratched it was. Anyway, I'll contact Brian at Sun BMW and see what price he'll give me. Thanks for the suggestions. Very helpful.

My experience with Hubcap Heaven hasn't been great, I bought a wheel for my E90 3 series from them that had a sloppy paint job and a poor repair on the inner part of the wheel that was suspect at best. At 350 I am sure it will be a reproduction wheel and not a OEM quality wheel.
I bought a replacement wheel for my M2 for 800 shipped from BMWpartswarehouse.com which is BMW of San Francisco. They had to to special order it so it took about 8 days from order till arrival. 800 shipped was the best deal I could find by about 50 bucks. |

^ Thanks Pruettfan. I don't have my car yet but I will keep your info handy in case I ever need a wheel. Sooner or later I always seem to scrape one on a curb and I can't stand to have a wheel like that.

I still haven't been able to get in touch with Brian at Sun BMW but planning to call there today. Otherwise $800 looks like the best price on an actual new OEM wheel.

Wow these wheels are f-ing expensive! I might just buy a set of take-offs from this forum as insurance so I have some spares lying around ready. I think I've seen sets with asking prices of around $1,750. Cheaper in the long run if you love the stock wheels, and I do.

Sucks to hear the repair job is so bad. I've got a small scrape on one of my wheels and the dealer wants $185 to repair. I was going to do it next time I go in but now I'm wondering if I should bother.

What I learned is that any scratches on the brushed alloy outer rim and spokes (not the painted black sections) must be sanded to remove those scratches or nicks, and when they sand any of those brushed alloy sections it changes the color. Impossible to match unless you sand ALL the brushed alloy areas and then you have a wheel that doesn't match the other three wheels! My dealer's body shop tried to paint the sanded area to match (getting in deeper and deeper) but unsuccessfully and, in any case, the finish no longer matched either. I don't think I'm anal about the condition of my car, but this wheel isn't going back on the car when I switch from the winter wheels back to the summer original 437M wheels. So, you might get lucky with your body shop. They might do a better job than mine did. But be prepared to shell out big bucks if you ultimately need a new wheel. I'm waiting for quotes from Sun BMW in PA and BMWPARTSWAREHOUSE.COM for a new wheel. Posts above recommended those two sources. When I hear back, I'll share the information.

I had a guy repair mine for $100 and he was not happy with the work after he was finished. Still looks a lot better than the scrape...

Hmmm, here is what I've found so far.
BMWPARTSWAREHOUSE.com (BMW dealer in San Francisco) = $840 including shipping anywhere US. GETBMWPARTS.com (BMW dealer in Silver Spring, Maryland+ = $841.95 including shipping. So there's an east coast as well as west coast supplier at the same price. Another dealer local to me has quoted $875. That took some negotiating. So, it looks like the best price we're going to get on a brand new 437M OEM wheel for the M2 is $840. I got back my repaired wheel from the body shop and it looks like crap. So, I'm about to order a new wheel. Ironically, after paying $150 for the crappy repairs, I'll actually end up spending about the same as retail for a new wheel. There's a lesson here. Don't bother trying to repair a damaged wheel unless you feel lucky or don't really care what it looks like. Bite the bullet and buy a new one for $840.

I really appreciate all the work you did here; thanks! But, I disagree with your final sentence. There are some shops (several around Los Angeles) that do really good work on repairing damaged or curbed wheels. It really depends upon the severity of the damage. I have used a shop called Exoticar and they have repaired it so well and matched the paint colors so well you would never know it was ever damaged. I think they have a website showing before and after photos, maybe not. Anyway, you now at least have a spare you could use if you damage another front wheel. Don't throw it away!
