Angry Bloody Council Tax Rates!

I received a nice letter today from Glasgow City Council saying that the Council Tax will be significantly increased for 2017/18. The letter didn't give the amount so I had a look on the GCC web site..... I'm not surprised it didn't mention the amount.... £3921.17 , this is getting to be a bloody joke

I do get that we should all contribute to the cost of local services/facilities but this is really taking the piss.

It is, just because you live in a bigger house they assume you earn more - generally that isn't necessarily true.

I'm sure we were £2426 the years that's rising to £3921 for next year, I make that a circa 60% increase. I'm in a Band H house which is a house valued greater than £212K, I don't think that is an expensive house value these days so there must be a significant percentage of Glasgow housing falling into the Band H category.

When was it built? Ours was banded when they first did it in the early 1990's and is banded lower than the new builds in our area which are less expensive than ours.

I'm not complaining

I thought the council tax increase to help fund social care was being capped at 3% of bills.

A 60% increase can't be right.

I agree 60% is too much it just cannot be correct

I would expect 5% max

The value of the house is not stupidly high

Surely that can't be right. I'm in East Renfrewshire and band H is going up by 26% to £2841

Does that include water rates? They're going up a fair bit as well

There's also a Scottish Government levy of £506 on band H here

This. Exactly f*cking this.
And a bigger tax bill than the rest of the UK too. Sooner Nippy Sturgeon loses the next referendum the better. Then the SNP can f*ck right off back to their pitiful little existences.

And breathe.

Over £300 per month for council tax!? Surely that's a mistake! Ours is only £130 & I think that's taking the piss to be honest!

Mines @£2k pa, Co. Down, N Ireland.

A real pain in the arse considering the crap service you get, and the fact that we don't use all the 'social' council 'services' like leisure centres, library's, drop-in centres, etc.

I think ours is going up too.

If I were in charge I'd make council tax a lot higher than that.

But I'd also abolish stamp duty if it's your only property at the same time.
