4K Drone Advice
I'm after a 4k drone - not really sure why - but they seem like fun and I've always been into photography in some way. I'm looking for advice though before wasting my money though and surely some of you on here have already tried them out.
Was at first thinking of the DJI Phantom 4 but as it seems like a huge thing to carry about I'm now more inclined towards the Mavic Pro which would mean that I could carry it with me most places without really thinking about it. There's a few places that do a bundle with spare batteries etc for about £1350. So, does anyone have any advice either about what to buy or experience where they've tried it and the novelty has worn off quickly. Many thanks in advance! |

you've got 3 real options
phantom 4 mavic pro phantom 4 pro mavic pro builds on the 4, is smaller but has a slightly poorer video quality (check out youtube for side by side). the phantom 4 pro builds on both the 4 and the mavic so adds the collision detention, routing etc. The mavic is tiny and truly portable, the phantom platform is still compact when you compare it to pro setups or most self built solutions. If you should get one of not is another question, do you make your own videos? do you want start getting into aerial photography? or do you just want something that's cool and easy to fly? Before dumping best part of a grand and a half consider what you want from it and also where you can use it, the laws in the UK are already clear and where you can and can't use a drone and they look to get harsher. Also check out flighttest channel on youtube. |

I looked into it but after reading the regs on where and what you can do with them I changed my mind!

DJI is where you need to go right now as they are the leaders.
Many people are selling off their P4 because of the P4P. So you may find them cheap on eBay. I have a P4. But won't sell it till the P5. P4P has sensors front and back and video quality is slightly better, especially low light. Mavic is more for those going on walks and want to carry it around all day. P4P is more a case of going to a destination to fly it. Just remember you need a fairly decent laptop or PC to edit and run the 4k footage. |

Also people really do not like drones. Get so many negative reactions than positive when flying in a park away from people.

It's a wasp a yard wide and you're wondering why?

You are right though, drones have a a really negative connotation around them. OP you will need to do some research on legislation, what you can do and what you can't, etc. With that considered, there are plenty of low-key places you can fly that i'm sure are very beautiful. Just try to keep a low profile if you aren't certified. I would recommend looking at the Phantom series as well. No point going with any other brand. Our company has owned DJI products since the original Phantom and I can confidently say that although they have their issues, DJI is far and away the only legitimate RTF drone manufacturer. Might want to look at Phantom 3's as well, or even Inspire 1 Pro's since they are now discontinued. |

I have a Phantom 3 Advanced and used it a lot at first but not for ages now.
The range on these is incredible 14,500 feet away and 2,300 feet high, not that I would do that of course..... I managed 56mph with a strong gale behind it. I live in the middle of nowhere so we have no issues with where to fly |
