524280 mileage for fault codes
I want to share something that had me stumped for bit.
Some fault codes show a mileage of 524,280 km (when they don't know the actual mileage). I recently passed that mileage and for a while I thought it was real on some faults. Then I saw it on another vehicle and figured out it was hex 7fff8, which seems to be the maximum value it will log. I also found that after you exceed 524,280, the mileage value on the faults will wrap around. I now have values of 40,000 km, which when added to 524,280 matches the actual mileage. So now I can understand the mileage values again, like I did 100k km ago. |

Probably no MSD80 car has ever broken that distance, so they wouldn't know if it was an issue or not. |

Since you're counting *other* cars, I also have a 1999 MZ3 Dinan S/C with 180k miles, 48k of which is since the 2006 325xi purchase, for a total of 402k I agree they are well built. I'm even looking for another with low (to me) miles. I've had the usual issues like water pump and sensors, but still on the same engine and transmission. I change the oil every 5k miles (8 weeks). |

I just did Autotrader search for high mileage N52 and there are plenty with over 200k. Interestingly enough, those close to or over 300k miles are all 325i. |

I've seen the same thing and I wondered if the 325i lasted longer since it's a more conservative car and maybe driven more conservatively.

But who's counting My average OCI on the E90 is 14,000 miles and that's not all "highway" miles; far from it to be precise. I think the N52 E90 is a frickin' tank, even better than the E30 (we did 256,000 on it). In all honesty I expected to get 250,000 on the E90 and then call it a day, but it's in such good shape still.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I can only throw in a cargo van, so you win
I did extra oil changes for the first 25k or so, then the CBS interval, then when that stopped I ended up at 5k / 8 weeks as cheap insurance. I've also used Ceratec. Not sure if it helped, but it doesn't seemed to have hurt. |

Guys like Mike Miller claim the E30 was the best-built BMW ever, but I disagree. I've had both the E30 and E90, both from new, and I'd say the E90 is actually the tougher of the two chassis. Our E30 spent 2 years in NYC with my Wife, which can kill any car, but it handled it with aplomb. But the daily beating my E90 has endured for over 10 years is truly amazing. I drive it like a BMW should be driven because I live in a place with great backroads to drive on and then on top of that, it endures Northern Virginia traffic every day; 40 miles of heavy stop and go traffic on Route 66 and Route 28. The only time if been left on the side of the road was the water pump. And I had been seeing the codes for it (I was the one who discovered there were coded for it), but didn't understand at that time in 2011 that the codes were a tell tale of a failing pump. One breakdown in 320,000 miles is a very good track record IMO. Congrats again on hitting the 350 mark. My hat is off to you.

I do that a month. I live above New York City and work in Times Square. It is literally impossible for me to commute to work in a car and not die from stress in a month. So I have to take a train in and only have time to drive on nice weekends or nightly beer runs once a week.
