Coolant Leak

Hey guys quick question regarding a coolant leak, and need some help locating it... Walked to my car this morning and all the coolant had drained onto the ground, big leak sprung over night.

Topped her off and drove around for a bit and its leaking again but i cant trace it back, all i can tell you is it is coming from the passenger side middle of the engine bay. Any ideas of coolant parts that commonly fail around that area? This cars gonna be the death of me!!!

There's a lot places the leak could be coming from. Just that the place on the ground wouldn't let you know exactly the source of the problem as our cars have a undercarriage pan. Check all the weak points of the system. The expansion tank and the overflow vent hose that runs across the top of your radiator. Peep at the lower hoses below as well.

A leak that big shouldn't be too hard to find.
Open the hood to see if its coming from the top side or underneath. A compression test can easily find it.

Cracked water pump or
Radiator or
Hose or
Coolant reservoir (cap is known to fail too) or
Turbo coolant line

Best to get it up on a lift, take under tray off start it up & have a good look.
Bottom of rad went on mine. Fortunately It was noticed when fitting inter cooler before it got to bad.

Yup. That hose completely snapped off for me to. I'm glad that it happened when it was parked in the garage at home and not when I was out. For a hose to break off like that is pretty ridiculous especially when it's a part that is stationary and its only function is to allow fluid to travel.

There is a thread somewhere on E90 post about replacement of that hose bib with an aluminum part. It might be in the DIY section or in the maintenance section. Maybe look at ECS for the part.

looks like there's a wire whose jacket is broken....also should make sure no coolant got on the belt, right? So it doesn't slip....

This is the part. Saved my bacon last weekend when I replaced the OFG, belts pulleys, valve cover and other stuff on my daughter's X3 with the N52 engine. Same part for the N54 engine. From ebay. Linky.
