Will driving in limp mode damage my engine?

I recently experienced limp mode /safe mode for the first time. My BMW's engine power was cut by half, the check engine light illuminated and it wasn't changing gears. I drove home however the next morning the car started normally and drove normally but the check engine light was still on.

Can I drive it for sometime until I can manage to get it looked at? Will it not damage my engine?

Are you able to pull any codes for us? There's really no telling at this point what caused you to go into limp mode in the first place, so not sure what the problem may be.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. It was a relatively easy fix if you are handy. Do yourself a favor and get the part from the dealership or other part store where you can compare the inside connector to the part coming off the car. I ordered one online and there was a notch inside the connector that keeps you from putting the part in upside down that was a bit offset and I had to send the part back and just went to the dealer.
