15k 2007 boxster s

hi all,
going up to Yorkshire classic porshe on wenesday, they have some nice boxsters in with fsh and are risk free, just wondered if you could run one for 2 years and not lose much money come resale time if mileage is say 60k with fsh
now I don't want to be greedy in life but the m140i doesn't connect you in the same way as a boxster if you know what I mean?.
something about open top motoring,is it worth stretching to gen 2 for 20k?
cheers happy

You won't lose a lot that's for sure. Unless the economy goes tits up and interest rates go through the roof!

Love my Boxster!

Bought my 55 plate S almost two years ago for just over £15k (mint cond and 35k miles). Still regularly see similar specs and mileage for same price.

A friend of mine bought an 05 plate S auto last year at a dealer for £14k. Didn't like the auto so just sold it privately for a £500 profit to get a manual.

Don't think you will loose much depreciation wise.

There is an increasingly widely held opinion in classic car circles that Boxster prices have just about bottomed out now. They probably mean for tidy examples of the older 986 models but 987s can't be far off either.

Would love a 987 myself but with the current state of my back getting in/out would be a pain (literally!)

Unless the economy tanks I don't think any Porsche in good condition, and less than 100k miles will ever drop much below 10k now.

Strange to think that not long ago you had to practically give away a 928.

Indeed. Or that you could buy a perfectly good 996 for less than £10k!

That's Low interest rates for you.

Loved my 986 Boxster S too. Really miss it.

My mate has just bought a 987 S and just had it wrapped;

He's just got rid of his TVR and was initially sceptical about Boxsters but once he drove one, that was it

He's wrapped it because he does a load of stuff with Rallies for Heroes and uses his cars as a marketing a PR tool. Looks lovely.

Looks great- one of the all time great car liveries.
How much is a wrap like that?

I think he said it should have been 3k but had it done for 1500. He needs to take it back in to get a few bits redone but it does look rather lovely.

No Gen 1 987 Boxster is 'risk free'.... If it's an S model it will have the 3.4 litre engine which suffers from bore scoring. Google M96 bore score & see what comes up....

I've had a gen 1 987 Boxster S for 4 years & prior to that a 986 Boxster S. My 987 is the earlier 3.2 model so not prone to bore scoring but there are issues with IMS bearings which if they fail can destroy an engine. My brother had to sink over £6k into a rebuilt engine on his 986 Boxster S less thsn 2 months after purchase & this was on a 60k mile, 1 owner car with full history.

The are fab cars, but can cost a fair bit to keep on top of. Even if you don't get hit with massive depreciation, most people suggest budgeting at least £2k per annum. I'm just about to sink £600 on tyres on mine, plus a front spring snapped on Saturday, Porsche centre quoting £800 to change both (assuming they can get top mounts off dampers) - this is with substantial discount as I have a good relationship with them.

Don't let me put you off - they're great cars but go in with your eyes open & prepare for wallet emptying bills...

I've got an itch for a Boxster. Looking at £10k or so spend.

Will likely only cover 5-6k a year but need to know what I'm getting myself into with regards to known issues and onging maintenance and costs.

I'd be happy with a non-S (and the budget probably dictates that will be the case)
