Dinan springs - what track tires you running?
I just fitted my apex 18x8.5s on nitto 01s and they are rubbing badly.
NITTO are 235/40/18 and are taller and a bit wider than a normal 235/40 tire. Im thinking I need to go down to a 35, but havent found many options in a 235.35.18.

Im not running springs currently, but am switching tyres on my 18x8s to a 235/40/18 square setup with Nankang NS-2Rs and am expecting to encounter a bit of rubbing on the front of the fender liner (nothing major though). My 225/40/18 winter set up (deep tread) on the same wheels rubbed slightly in certain situations (full lock reverse on an incline). They are a 32 offset though with around 2deg camber for street. Theres this bump in the liner near the headlight port that reduces clearance quite a bit - thought it may have been fender rubbing, but turns out it wasn't.
My cup 2s, even though on a 19" are a very slightly smaller diameter overall so avoid this problem. What is the lowering effect of the dinans vs stock? |

nankang? this is a joke right?
if you keep stock suspension you wont rub. You can answer your own questions by searching, and not throwing my thread off. thanks,

Oh, you're one of those. The NS-2R is not a bad tyre, far from it. A certain element of tyre snobbery would prevent some people from seeing this and, admittedly, i wouldn't be in a rush to choose from their road range, but they make some very good r-comp stuff. Especially for the price. Im expecting (know) i will rub, but not all the time. It was a statement. I have no intention of going with Dinan springs. Was purely to see what your clearances were - my 8.5s don't have any fender issues and my 8s have minor liner issues purely because of tyre aspect ratio. Just sharing experience, as is the whole point of the forum. Mods can feel free to delete my derailment and get you "back on track". |

I have 18x8.5 wheels running 255 square (camber plate).
When I had my H&R springs (do not recommend) they rubbed badly. I went back to stock and they're fine now. Lowering on this car is kind of a dicey business as you don't have a whole lot of clearance for tires, even with additional camber. Have you considered camber plates? If you are tracking, it is worth it (even if you aren't, I still like it).

im on camber plates, -2 up front, -1.8 in rear.
and wasnt trying to be snobby, but nankang isnt known for having good tires at all. The R comps might be decent, but im looking for more well known tires if possible.

I'm going to go for the new Hankook RS4 tires when my RS3's wear out. Might want to check those out.

I was looking at those too but the issue is that the 245-40-17 is 10.1" inches wide instead of 9.8" as the RE-71R so I'm worried they will be hitting the strut....

I know some people cut the plastic cover for the strut but wonder if you might get debris in there and screw up the strut |

I'm far, far too lazy to switch tires. I'm not tracking the car as much anymore, so maybe I'll go back to PSS. I hate the soft sidewalls though.

see the Nittos are taller and wider than normal as well...
I need something thats similar in size to 225/40/18 dsw06's but in a R comp.. I have them on the car now and they fit no problem. At this point, ill keep it 225, just so i don't rub. I should have just got the KW's... Matching tire specs, i think the 225 nittos will work.

Dropping to a 225 may be the only solution on a lowered car if you're wanting to stick with 18s (and i can appreciate why you would). Cant see any manufacturer who does a 235/35/18 r-comp.
Out of the AD08R and Cup 2s, only get the AD08s if you can get them at a good discount. Over here they run almost as much as a set of cup 2s and just aren't quite in the same league. Better in the wet, but more of a compromised all rounder. The Cup 2 is wide though so there is that to consider. Cant comment on the Nitto or the RE-71R as they just aren't widely available, if at all, in the UK. |

For track duty I'm running 245/40-17 R-S3s in a square setup. No rub, no fuss, and I'm down almost 7 lbs. per wheel over OEM with this setup.

Where are you actually rubbing?
You mentioned rolling the rear fender. You can't roll the rear, but you can pull it if you want.

1. higher offset or narrower wheel and/or tire 2. Pull the fender (can't roll the rear). 3. more camber I would think more camber is the easier option...depending on how much more camber you actually need. If you already paid for the nt01 use them up before spending the money on other tires. They don't last long anyway. Unless you can unload them on someone easily and for a good price. I run the RE71 now and have used the nt01 before. RE71 is comparable to the nt01 since it's older tire tech. My opinion anyway.

I bit the bullet an going to try out the re-71R's in 225.
If i have to, i can run the nt01s, but i noticed 1 was starting to cord, so pulled the trigger last night. Hope they get here in time.
