You need full bolt ons + tune (or JB4.)
I made 400whp/473wtrq with e40. If you don't have access to e85 or use meth you won't be close to the 400whp mark. Here is my dyno: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1312822 Meisterschaft makes awesome stuff, specifically their exhaust. Expensive though.

BM3 on 91 does feel slower than my E40 JB4. But the power and smoothness on the BM3 is far more superior. With that said, I'm going to look into a E30 BM3 tune.

How much are you prepared to spend? And how safe do you want your complete installation to be?

Cheapest setup/most power would be catless downpipe, FMIC, chargepipe and tune (BM3, flash tune, or jb4 are your options.) run race gas or e30-40 mixture. |

Power : Catless downpipe (VRSF) , Phoenix FMIC, JB4 with E30-40 or race gas(Used) The setup above will be pretty close to 400whp for about $800-1000 -I actually happen to be selling my JB4 , for $400 if interested.

GThaus make aggressive exhausts that sound really good, keep in mind most of the time there will be a wait on these exhausts. They use AR design downpipes

You can make close to 400, relatively speaking. 370ish is about where it's going to cut off on the F30 without a Flash or meth or E85 though

If you want a practical but fast daily driver: Go with a catless DP, K&N drop in air filter, CTS Intercooler, and Chargepipe. Then get a flash, either Frank Smith's(What I run) or BM3.
You can continue to add power through a new fuel pump, which allows for more aggressive tunes, or Meth/Ethanol. If you want to run meth/ethanol, you are going to need to get a unit along with them to control everything. I would personally stick with the first option as it is the most safe, least to worry about, and most cost effective. After that, you start getting into mixing ethanol buying JB4 or other units to control ethanol or meth. Buying meth, running lines, just not worth it in my opinion for a daily. Now if you are building a pure track car, or pure drag car, then it's a different story. Also, after you go the FBO/Flash route, before spending any more money I would recommend getting lighter rims, better tires, and a lowering for better handling, or else all that power is useless!

Just to give you context: DP: $300 CP: $250 FMIC: $400+ AirFilter: $50-100 or Intake(a good one): $300 Flash Tune: $800 That already puts you at $2,000 and you haven't even touched turbos, fuel pumps, ethanol controllers, or meth set ups. Best way is to do install the above first, and then go part by part afterward because everything else builds off each other. Can't stress enough the importance of a good tire/suspension set up though or else you are honestly wasting your time and money.

I would say if you want to go stage 1, just wait and save so you can go all out on stage 2 or 3
