This car is way smarter than me.

So today I was attempting to close my trunk and for some odd reason the lock kept popping open. I must've tried 5 times wondering what was wrong before I realized it was because I had left my key fob in my jacket in the trunk. Did anyone else know this?

I've found that most cars with keyless entry and/or push button start are like this these days. For example, my '14 pickup came this way... but I changed it in the setting to allow to me lock the key fob in the car. I did this so, I can leave all my keys in the truck and just take the actual key when doing things outdoors. I don't want to get any key fobs wet, while out fishing or boating.

It did backfire on me once.. Went to the grocery store.. forgot I had my keys in the cup holder.. Jumped out and locked to the truck.. Thank God I had my phone and the remote app to unlock it.

Word of warning: it doesn't work all the time. On my F30 I knew of the feature and successfully demonstrated it a few times to anyone that was in close proximity. I was showing my dad and of course it just closed without popping the trunk. Dad just looked at me and said "cool car". Luckily I had the other key handy.

Don't try this trick with your battery disconnected. That one is extra not fun

I'm still getting used to the IQ-gap, but getting better about assuming that if it does something unexpected it was intentional, and that it will alert me if it is really something wrong. didn't know about the key thing, will try that myself - I've been paranoid that I'd either lock the fob in, or forget to turn it fully off and lock it when I leave (third day I drove to work I had to be offsite in the crappy part of town, and realized when I got back to the car that it had been unlocked all day).

Try opening the door before the car has come to a complete halt. It might give a you a mild case of whiplash.

Lol or when you want to back it up just a little bit and you try with the door open.

What happens if you're going like 30 mph and you crack the door to re-close it? It surely can't just throw it into park? Why didn't BMW just have it slam on the brakes?

It probably only does it below 3mph or something...

It only does it if these two conditions are met:

1. Door is open
2. Seat belt is unbuckled

So as long as you are buckled up, you should be ok. However, I'm not going to test the "what happens at 30 mph scenario". I found this feature when trying to inch up the car a few feet at a time to look for a nail in the tire. Nearly face planted on the steering wheel.

Also if you're driving at any speed and you hit the park button on your shift knob I believe it just throws the car into park no matter what speed you're going. I tried this at a low speed and it put it to an instant halt, thought this was kinda dangerous though given how relatively easy it would be for the driver or passenger to accidentally hit this button.

I think it only does this at low speeds. I've tried at freeway speeds (kind of a stupid test) and it did nothing.

I hope for safety's sake you're right. I did only try it maybe around 10 MPH so I guess I misspoke about "any" speeds. Good to know though cause lately when I have a passenger in the car I've been paying extra attention they don't get near it.
