NGK Spark Plug Differences
NGK website shows that a 2014 328i requires SILZKBR8E8S type of spark plug but a 2015 328i requires SILZKBR8D8S type of spark plug.
Are there any major changes between these spark plug part numbers? Are they interchangeable? |

I was always under the impression that 8E8S was the later variant of 8D8S
but its not inconceivable that new versions are reverted on and deprecated going back to an earlier version.. I'd call up BMW parts and ask for clarification |

How you crack the NGK code:
https://www.ngk.de/en/technology-in-...-the-ngk-code/ I believe the D & E refer to thread reach. We saw different plugs required for different engines in the E28 - M20 & M30, so perhaps a different plug is required for the N20/26, N55, etc. According to https://www.ngk.com: NGK 96987 SILZKBR8E8S Laser Iridium Spark Plug - 2013 BMW 328i N26 NGK 96987 SILZKBR8E8S Laser Iridium Spark Plug - 2014 BMW 328i N26 NGK 96987 SILZKBR8E8S Laser Iridium Spark Plug - 2015 BMW 328i N26 According to realoem.com: 2014 328i N26 - Spark plug, High Power NGK SILZKBR8D8S 2015 328i N26 - Spark plug, High Power NGK SILZKBR8D8S That clears that up!

Yeah, just order through a reputable dealer or NGK. The "D" is the newest model. There is supposedly an "F" for flex-fuel now but it's proven pretty elusive in finding it on NGKs site.

SILZKBR8D8S is the discontinued plug as it states on NGK's website when ordering: "NGK SILZKBR8D8S has been discontinued and replaced by NGK SILZKBR8D8S"
