540i vs 540i XDrive

Hi, I have been researching and live in the Dallas area. We get maybe snow or ice once or twice a year here and was all set to purchase a 540i. However, the dealer is speaking to all of the benefits of the XDrive and of course this is a higher ticket price.

It appears the X Drive adds weight to the vehicle and maybe I should be looking at it in light of rain conditions we have here in Texas. Is there an added benefit for the additional cost of the X Drive in Dallas in your opinion?

I live in Sweden and drive in snow for 4-5 months a year (with dedicated winter tires)

All my BMW's have been RWD. For me RWD is actually one of the main reasons for choosing to drive BMW.

Unless you feel the traction or lack thereof is a big issue for your style of driving rwd sounds like the right option for you. If we had any less rain here in northern England then I'd opt for rwd again. But with the torque these beasts come with coupled with our wet weather xdrive made sense for me.

I'm in Houston and grew up in Dallas. I don't think xdrive is worth it for our region. Peace of mind yes, necessary, not really

hello guys.

I've tried xDrive for the first time on xDrive experience. So mountains, snow, ice etc...
It was huge difference between xdive vs nonxdrive especially when you tried to lose your traction and get it back.

Well I live in big city far from mountains. Still I've took the xDrive because it should be more stable in critical situations on dry roads too + it's a tiny bit faster.

I attended the BMW NA event where we took the 5 xdrive and non xdrive on a autocross and boy let me tell u the xdrive pulls off the line much faster. There is a thread about the event and a lot of others that attended agreed. Goodluck on your pick.

Here in Norway it's now xDrive only, except for the 520d and 530e. Canada is also xDrive only, even the 530e.

I would only say if you get xdrive make sure you get the adaptive suspension.

I went from my 08 335 w/ sport package to my 14 335 sport line xdrive and it's just too damned floaty for me. Really miss the rock-solid feel of my old car. Would never get xdrive on a car again unless it has the adaptive/adjustable suspension (even on a sport/m-sport package, xdrive suspension is used).

New to the G30 is the possibility to get xDrive and 704 M sport suspension.

Edit: Ah! So now you can get xdrive and still override it with the M Sport suspension, but not dynamic/adaptive suspension?

I was really leaning towards an M550, but I don't think the SO will be happy if I spend that much on a car lease. *Le sigh.
