Does this tint look correct to you guys?

I read about the dot matrix issues with tints and I am not sure what is consider an acceptable job. I went to the suppose best tint place in socal, song's tint masters and got the expensive 30% huper for $500! I just took these two pics, do you guys think this is best i can get?

not the best pics, but its gloomy today and there are still dusts from the fire few days ago. this is already after the two weeks touch up, and i am not too happy with the results. I ask them if they could redo the rear tint, but they tried to scare me by saying that they cant guarantee the results will be any better, and that the rest of glass might get worst due to glue in the films the second time, any truths to that? is it really that bad to re-tint the same location? the rest of the windows is awesome, but the rear dot matrix is getting on my nerves every time i look back there! i am not expecting perfection, but i thought the results would be better for $500. Should i risk it and ask them to re-tint or should i leave it along? Thanks!

did you research any of your tints before you bought it? huper optik is alot thicker than your average tint film. it was originally made for building windows, which is very different from the windows you find on cars... its gonna be less flexible and harder to use on the contour of the e92's rear window. alot of places wont recommend it just because they know the quality wont be up to par. its not always how good the service can be... sometimes the film you pick limits the quality of the work on the specific car.

i'd get it redone using another tint.

Looks about typical though you would hope for better @$500... But yeah, mine looks a little better but it's also not ceramic.

The dot matrix is never going to be perfect, but it should look better than this IMO. There is a possibility it may get better as the tints settle, but if it stays like this after a week, I would complain and get them to redo it.

I would get out there in the middle of the day when it's hot and try to push the bubbles out. It can be done properly if the tinter has the motivation to do so. If you're not happy about it bring it back and tell them that.

Has anyone gotten their tints to be redone before? any truths to the suggestion that there might be glue or left over lint when they remove the current film and apply another? i am happy with the rest of the result, just the rear dot matrix area that is ticking me off

it doesnt look bad. they cant get it much better. its not the tinter its the matrix in the way. depending on how old the tint is, like if you just got it done within a day. try to smooth out the middle part to the top line with your fingers, thats why i did.

i got mine done for $130 all the way around, and it looks way better than that. I noticed my tint did look better after a week or so, after the sun baked out any of the residual adhesive via diffusion through the plastic film. as with any adhesive, it can be removed with a solvent, so any argument that they put up about leaving residual adhesive around is BS, because all they have to do is get a guy out there for 15 minutes with some solvent and a rag and it will come off. Just be careful they aren't reckless and spill it on the interior, as it will be a volatile substance and the interior will WREAK! Get it redone.

In Chicago, where it is illegal to have front window tints, there is a limited selection of premium tint installers (huper and F1). Due to this, a madico/llumar non cermaic tint will run about 250, F1 is 375, Huper around 450. With the OP being in LA, I would imagine you could get it cheaper than a half grand, take it back and opt to get it redone or get some money back.

How long has it been since you had the tints? I have 35% HO ceramic as well (no dot matrix issue since I have an E90) and it took almost 5 weeks for the tint to fully cure. Maybe it will get better over time but you should ask the installer to redo it if it's not any better after 4-5 weeks.

Yeah for $500 I would definitely want it redone. Like just4kickz said, HO is a thicker tint, but I would expect them to do better than that. I got F1 Pinnacle Ceramic done for $330 and its flawless on the dotmatrix. I'd say give it a couple days in the sun and see if it works in a bit and if it doesn't maybe try a different film.

I've had my tint taken off and redone about four times due to tickets and that bs. But i havnt noticed any difference in the quality any of the times. It doesnt make any difference, as long as when the tint is removed, they use a razor and remove the residue also

you should be fine when removing tints... i mean if the shop you went to was as professional as you say they are... it'll be like another job for them... all they really do is cut the tint slightly and peel it off... then use googone to remove the residue. i cant remember if the defroster lines are an issue, but i think you'll be fine.
