335D parked for prolonged period - engine noise

Hello,

I'm a former E39 M5 owner who is considering getting a 335D. I recently came across one that hasn't really been driven in 6+ months. There is an "engine noise" reported, however I don't have more details. As far as I know, no codes are reported. I'm curious if the noise could be related to the prolonged period of inactivity.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Never heard of anything like that, and can't really advise without hearing the noise. Could be an old engine oil problem. Could be CBU and the sound is rather normal. Could be injector problems. See if you can get a video or sound clip.

Thanks for the quick reply. I realize this is an impossible question to answer without hearing/seeing the engine, but I certainly appreciate the ideas.

the only engine noise that would come to mind would be dry lifters after a long sit.. given that the noise should clear up after a few seconds after oil got circulated...

why did they stop driving it? was it making a noise and now its worse..

did you check the oil level?? maybe during the long sit the car got a large amount of condensation in the oil and they started it and let it run until the noise happened then maybe changed the oil and said it was making a noise after sitting??

something seems odd

If it hasn't been driven in 6+ months, they probably shouldn't have started it without a low mileage oil service having been performed first. They may want to check the oil level to see what it's actually at. Also may want to see if the fuel is six months old as well, or older. Can't be good to let diesel sit for 6+ months without an additive of some sort.

We have been asked before about a ticking noise. I think that turned out to be a noisy injector. Did you hear car in person or going by a description from seller? Plenty other 335d fir sale without buying this problem unless it's at give away price due to this issue.
