I want to install a sub in the trunk
What do some of you sound experts recommend?
I have the Top HiFi 677 system (E90 if that makes any difference). All I look to do is throw a single 12inch in the trunk. What amp(s) would be ideal for this and I suppose what subs would some of you recommend as well? From my understanding everything should be plug and play correct? And all I need are the harness, sub/sub-box, and amp- yes? Does the factory AMP stay put or is that removed? |

hi,
get a PnP cable kit from Technic' webshop, then you can buy almost any active or passive+amp solution you like. there are several custom made enclosures available, so you can get a solution that really integrate nicely. google is your friend.. :-) // Chris Quote:

Hey, I'm doing something very similar with my 677 system. Yes, it is plug and play, especially if you use a Technic harness. The factory amp stays in place and powers all of the other speakers. I've read that any new amp added to the system needs to accept balanced signal inputs, since that works best for the BMW Professional headunit. My understanding is that JL and most Alpine amps work well. There are a few links below for more info.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=528285 http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/i-c-e...-question.html I'm only adding a 10" subwoofer, because the E91 wagons have a perfect spot in the center of the trunk well for a 0.6-0.7 cuft enclosure, so I won't lose any space. I just made a simple enclosure with 5/8" MDF for about $30. But I don't listen to any music requiring a 12", either... If we had 676, there are a ton of options others have outlined on this site. With the 677, it's a little more tricky to do a plug and play installation. But we have more power going to the amp, so the underseat midbass and door speakers aren't terribly underpowered, so adding a subwoofer should round out the package. I've attached a PDF that goes through the different OEM BMW systems. |
