Advice about ED driving in Eastern Europe

I posted this in the F30 forum, and hope no one minds if I repost it here . . .

I'm starting some initial planning for my ED later this year, and I'm considering a trip that includes Czech (Czech Republic/Czechia??!!) and Poland. I know some years back, there were some safety/theft concerns driving in that part of Europe, although I don't believe it's an issue today. But I was hoping that some of our European members or Americans who have driven there could chime in. I'm thinking about touring quite a bit of Czech but would probably go no further east in Poland than Wroclaw. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I did 10 day ED trip back in late 2006 and we drove to Prague...it was worth the 2 day stop, but that was as East as we went. If I recall we turned back and headed to Vienna after that stop.

In fact it should not be a problem to drive in Czech Republic (now: Czechia) or Poland (especially its western part, where Wroclaw lies, has very well developed infrastructure). Theft happens (as everywhere) but it is not 'wild wild east' BMW is quite popular in big cities (for example only in Wroclaw there are three authorized BMW's dealers). However, be careful on Polish roads as the drivers are much less patient or calm than in Germany or Czechia (on the other hand, the Polish Police is much more lenient than in CZ or DE). You may be surprised but it is easier to understand (or to be understood) in Poland than in Germany if you are English-speaking (should not be a problem to communicate in restaurants, gas stations, museums or even on the street). The gas stations are quite often and very well equipped. There are many interesting things in Czechia and Poland (the latter State was founded under this name in 966 - yeah, more than 1000 years of the history), so enjoy!
