G30 5 Series Active Sound

Hi all

Does the BMW 530i have active sound module where it plays engine noise through the cars speakers. If so, can this be coded?

I want this gone as well, who needs V8 sounds when the engine is already V8?

It cannot be adjusted (ie different configuration), but can be turned off.

Either coding any other configuration (eg, F20) or unplugging module.

On my 550i I only get engine sound through the speakers when in "Sport" mode and I find it ok, not too intrusive.

On the other hand I can understand people's objection to this slight fakery. But I do enjoy the subtlety of this particular V8's growl.

How to turn it off? Not sure, but does turning the music up blot it out or increase it......?

Active Sound is dumb.

You can turn it off with coding, or with apps like http://bimmercodeapp.com or http://www.bimmerlink.com

I also have my exhaust flaps permanently open (on M550), which makes the car sound much better.

OBDII port in driver's footwell space (superior lateral ceiling).

ENET for E-sys or Vgate for Bimmercode. Allegedly more functions will be supported for G-series, but I heard Bimmercode is currently limited to HU_NBT2. Bimmerlink, which reads & clears faults as well as can control ASD/exhaust flap, is separate paid app.

Thanks I found it.

Do I need Bimmerlink as well?

I have not used neither; I am just reporting what I have read on forums.

Which app you need sort of depends on plan. I am told that only head-unit (ie HU_NBT2) coding is supported on G012/G030 right now in Bimmercode. And, ASD is separate module. So, not sure if Bimmerlink supports ASD, but it may as it is not a new ECU (same one used in M4).

I think you can download for free, but must then purchase to actually code. So, you may be able to download and see what is supported. I do not own any apple products, so hopefully someone else can chime in with further details.

Neither (sort of). Much like the F010, only certain G030's come with ASD.

You will not find it in the 540i(x) and I have yet to see it in any US 530i(x). It comes in the M550 and some diesels.

As an aside, I have also seen it in the G12 750dX, but not 750iL.

That's good.
For a second I thought it came standard and I was about to rip it out from mine.
I only heard it in an i8, so I don't know how it sounds in a regular car.
